Everyone knows that the BIG 12 is #1 in football. The ACC is probably #1 in basketball. But the SEC, BIG 10 and PAC 10 are all good in both, and maybe the BIG EAST a little too. And since theres so many MAC people on this board maybe we should include them in the poll too. SO WHOS THE BEST?

Come on everone. Where is the conference pride? Only 9 votes? Whats up?

So, by asking "Where is conference pride?" you really mean this poll as a popularity contest.... (which I admit is all it would have been anyway).

Go to the verbal assault board so we can tell you what to do with the Big XII. <img border="0" alt="[Puke]" title="" src="graemlins/puke.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Puke]" title="" src="graemlins/puke.gif" /> except for about half the schools. Oh! I forgot. That's is where I am. Any way, there are some truly great football teams and some great baseball teams in your conference and pretty good in basketball, too. The SEC contends for the National Championship in EVERY major sport - nearly every year. It is the "Premier" conference when you consider what we have done over the last 15 years. Top to bottom, the toughest competition in a single conference.

Now we're talking. 18 votes. And the race is getting good. SEC in first place so far.

Is there even any doubt? In a word, no! The SEC is far and away the most competitive from top to bottom in football and basketball, along with many other sports.

No wonder the SEC's motto is "Continuing the tradition of excellence" this year.

You have to have a bit of athletics integrity to vote correctly in this poll - but alas, many just vote for their conference regardless of the truth...

The truth in BB:
==================================================
1. ACC (seriously, do I have to explain why?)
2. Big11 (depth and more depth)
3/4. BigEast and SEC (plenty of good teams, few great ones)
5/6. PAC10 and Big12 (not the same level of competition as in the other BCS conferences)
7. C-USA (Cincinnati, Marquette, Charlotte, and now Pitino and Cal too)
8-9-10. MWC, WAC and MAC (a sweet 16 team worth each)

The truth in FB:
==================================================
1/2. SEC and Big12 (dominant teams (plural) and depth of good teams)
3. Big11 (no GREAT team, but lots of good ones)
4/5. BigEast and ACC (thin after the first team)
6. PAC10 (no GREAT team and no depth)
7/8. C-USA and MWC
9. MAC
10. WAC

Overall:
1/2. SEC and Big11
3/4/5. Big12, ACC and BigEast
6. PAC10
7. C-USA
8. MWC
9. MAC
10. WAC

ANYBODY who actually votes for the MAC as the best two-sport conference is just a homer MAC fan. As much as I like my conference, I can't in honestly vote them the #1 2-sport conference.

The SEC is in the lead with the ACC in second. I thought there were more ACC people around here than SEC people.

- JD Heel - 08-29-2002 02:34 PM

If that's what you wanted out of this poll, why didn't you just ask: "What's your favorite conference?"
