I've heard things, but.. why?? I'd rather them not follow the New Order/ Joy Division, Gang of Four type of "comeback" album. Let your sh!t die gracefullly. IMO, of course I really don't know much about music, let alone MBV.

RE: MBV Reunited - niuhuskie84 - 11-17-2007 12:45 PM

well, i mean they technically never broke up. they've been working on a "new" album for the past decade (i.e. spending Island Records' money). And Kevin Shields has still been moderately active, did a bunch of new songs for the Lost in Translation soundtrack. So if the new album is anything like City Girl, I will be a very happy man indeed.

Fair enough. I was pretty drunk when I posted that. That songs not bad, but I would like to hear it w/out having to be distracted by Scarlett Johanson. That's one movie that I have to watch. I tried watching it once, but I caught it maybe 30 minutes in and could never get into it. So I gave up after 5 minutes.

Pollard said their won't be a GBV reunion, because he is GBV or something to that extent.

What do you have against the Aragon?

crappy sound, crappy sightlines...the place just wasnt built for concerts

RE: MBV Reunited - dynovinyl - 05-07-2008 02:44 PM

Amazingly enough, with all the concerts I've gone to, I've only been to the Aragon once, and while the place is a turd for sound, I actually found it charming.

I saw Urge Overkill open for the Pixies there and what I found interesting was how the acoustics of the hall changed the live dynamic of the Urge Overkill set. The spaciness gave their sound a whole new place. It made every guitar riff larger than life and everything sounded huge. While they've always had that element of 70s rock, in the Aragon, they sounded like they were rockin' anthems in an arena circa 1976. The place plays much larger than it is. So, I found it fun, especially with a band I've seen a number of times. The place was packed by time the Pixies played, so it didn't have quite the affect it had earlier in the night.

I'd think the Aragon's spacey acoustics would be perfect for a shoe-gazer band. Plus, who needs fancy sightlines? The view of the top of your shoes looks the same at the Aragon as it does at the Congress Theatre.

Touche!

Actually I've heard from some people that the natural acoustic are actually pretty decent..you can hear a conversation on stage all the way in the back of the hall. The problem is most sound engineers dont know how the mix for the building and crank everything way up...which makes the end result sound like you're listening to the concert through a bowl of soup.

As for me? 04-jawdrop. Is Saturday here yet???

I've got Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds on Monday too...this is pretty much shaping up to be the best concert weekend ever.

Youll never learn...

When you eventually post the GBV reunion thread, I'll probably just brush it off thinking it's this thread.
