One must take Jak'es ramblings with a grain of salt- he views himself as Machiavelli trying to preserve his legacy. His goal from the first day of the BE was to either put SU in the big 10 or form an eastern fotball confernece- he was a total failure on both counts. The BE almost ceased to exist twice because of his machinations.

The PSU/BE issue is a matter of record. JoPa wanted to take SU and BC out of the BE to from a football first eastern league with a structure skewed to benifit PSU. Jake was either heavily involved or in favor of it. Pitt was gifted membership in the BE largely to stop Jake. Pitt saw no advantage to the league suggested by JoPa and the idea died. When PSU then came back asking for the same deal as Pitt, ie share in the BE b'ball money and keep your own f'ball- the BE chancellors told him to get lost- Jake supported PSU's inclusion. Miami was likely the soothing salve to Jake.

Even in his own narrative of events jake takes great pleasure in describing his efforts to manipulate other schools- thus, one can only assume the manipulation exercised in his recitation of facts. The only mystery in the entire affair was the reasoning behind the Big 10's inclusion of PSU.
