Things have not been the same over at ShockerNet since ShockBand gave control over to the current owner. This guy has decided to be a little too hands on and really changed a lot of the feel of the site. The site has been great and very active for over a decade now and has been run by two great individuals in ShockBand and RoyalShock.
The current administration lets opposing fans who come over to troll do just about whatever they want while he threatens the home fans with termination if they call out the troll and respond in kind. I simply don't get it. The site has always been very welcoming to opposing fans who want to have dialogue and remember whose house they're in.
I've never, in the 10 years or so I've posted over there, considered leaving the site for an extended period. I've taken a couple of short breaks for a variety of reasons but never have I thought about leaving it all together. I recently did the same thing at the other Valley board that went down a similar path. Where essentially, you could drag Wichita through the mud and say whatever the hell you wanted, but if a Wichita fan responded, they'd have their posts deleted and/or be threatened with a ban. I'm not even one to try and stir up controversy and I was having legit posts deleted because I apparently didn't do nothing but compiment the other teams in this crap conference.
That's one reason I hope this site will eventually catch on with some people and become a little busier. I miss having dialogue with other teams fans on a consistent basis.
I really hope that ShockerNet doesn't get to the point where I have to leave before saying something stupid and getting banned. But the "leader" over there is ridiculous and I hope he learns how to successfully run a message board without turning it into the Bradley board in which you have to be positive 100% of the time. And I'm not that negative of a person...

And of course, the Shocker fan who called out the troll (who's trolled multiple times before and continues to get a free pass) was banned for putting the troll in his place. He actually had to defend himself against the current admin which makes absolutely zero sense.
I really question the way that site is being run. The guy seems to be in over his head.

ShockerNet is still a great board because of all the other members. Only one thing could hurt the board and lead people away from it. I hope that doesn't happen. Even so, there are so many great members that they can probably overcome poor "leadership".

It's been a nicer board the last few days. But there's also been no sign of the "leader". I'm sure that'll change soon. Hopefully he gets preoccupied with his other endeavors and is just glued to Twitter.

I was just talking to a friend that's on SN yesterday about how nice it has been with less of a presence from the guy who runs it. Then today, the site appears to have been suspended by whoever hosts it I guess. So there's no place to talk Shocker Athletics. He's been alerted on Twitter, but that hasn't seemed to mean anything. No word out of him. It was nice when he just spent his time at his other site and on Twitter, but not at the expense of losing the absolute best place to talk Shox.
Venting done....for now.

I'm gonna go nuts with no ShockerNet. Being told it could be down for a couple of days.... I'm glad those running the site have everything together and are on top of everything. A little notice would have been nice. Allegedly moving to a faster server. I personally think that's BS. SN hasn't been that active that it needs a better server. I'm guessing that's a big pile of BS.
Maybe I'm just grumpy from Finals week and slow work day with nothing to do. Perhaps I just need to kick someones cat on the way home tonight.

Checked twitter. He has no idea how long it'll be down.
I really do miss old management. I think they did a much better job of keeping people informed and things running smoothly. I've never seen an admin there piss as many people off as this one has. A number of posters I know or have talked to have had issues with this one. Things have not been smooth since the most recent change.

I've posted here in the past, but overall like what our new leader has done at SN. He is new, young, and learning as he goes. He has developed a thicker skin, and realizes who his true audience is.
I wonder about doing like Memphis did and link that site to here. Making this part of canbbs be Shockernet. Benefit would be much more exposure and I believe feedback from fans of other schools. That might also lead to more day to day traffic on the conference page.
You have been on SN much longer than me. What do you think? Not much would have to change, I don't think.

I'll admit that he's gotten better. When he first took over though I about stopped posting all together. It was brutal. But he hasn't been over doing it and it's gotten much better. I do know some people who did stop posting though because of him.
Linking this to SN probably wouldn't be a bad idea. I believe we have a links section on SN to other boards, any chance of getting the conference board linked there? It may or may not help as well. I know I've used that section to find the other Valley team boards in the past. I also have it in my sig over there too just in case. SN is a great community with a lot of knowledgeable fans. We have our goobers as well. I'd love to see this conference site get more traffic. It's been a little better this year. This site could be ten times better than the "other" board.

He could still have complete control over it. I thought about sending a PM to the SIU guy, but forgot before they announced they were shutting it down. Could have redirected to here and washed their hands of it.
Wonder if we could get many of the Valley boards here. Each could still run their own board. Mods could be appointed to those WO currently are, etc.

As long as everyone had control of their boards, I think it would be great. I love getting outside perspectives and it would be easy for a number of outside fans to interact with the rest of us. Probably couldn't get Bradley on board considering the Nazi that runs it, but I think it could be good for everyone to have a connection. And would definitely help the conference board here.

Omg Sub. I just found this post. It describes ShockerNet and my last banning to a tee.
What a sad, pathetic place that has turned out being. During one of the more exciting times in Shocker history too.
Let's hope we can get posters away from there and over to a board that doesn't cater to trolls while treating its own like garbage. Done with it.

I too am looking for a new forum to discuss the Shockers. While I have not been banned I have become disenchanted with the actions of the mods policing Shockernet. They appear to have become focused on protecting new posters who are IMO clearly trolls while demonstrating a willingness to ban long time posters who have clearly demonstrated they are fans of the Shockers.

A new board is coming and in the not too distant future. We should have it up and running within the next few weeks.
