1. It's St. John's not Saint John's. We shared a league for almost a decade, you should know better.

2. Where was this "TV interest" when all the ACC posters were talking about how they could take the Garden if they wanted it. Looks like they wanted it but couldn't get it. Not sayin', just sayin'.

St. is an abbreviation for Saint. As a St. John's alum you should know this. So you were correcting him for nothing. Whenever you hear people speaking about the school, they say Saint John's. The abbreviation isn't an official thing, it's just easier to spell. New Yorkers are notoriously lazy about such things. Either way is technically correct.

You keep harping on this one point trying to stir things up. But I recall most ACC fans saying that if the Acc were willing to go into MSG full time, they could eventually get MSG. You now full well that the ACC is not willing to go anywhere full time except Greensboro, and even that's not written in stone anymore. But if the Acc were willing to commit to a good number of years, then MSG would have a choice of UNC, Duke, Louisville, Syracuse, ND and Pitt as opposed to Nova, St Johns, Marquette, Providence, Butler and Seton Hall. Its a no brainer, and the BE is very fortunate, that the ACC wont commit to such a deal.

Okay, then explain how they get out of their contract with the Big East that runs until 2026? Is it worth it to get your balls sued off to sell the same amount of tickets?

Look at the bottom of your pic. St. John's. The degree is the only time they spell out Saint. Saint John's is a college in Minnesota well known for their long time coach who has like 700 wins or some such #.

It's St. John's and any former BE member should know that. The fact people don't just shows their own ignorance.

Obvious to anyone that ever received a diploma, the bottom of the pic is a frame. The diploma itself refers to the school as "Saint John's University", and it does so twice, both in the main salutation and in referring to "The Trustees of Saint John's University New York".

So you're telling me that your diploma, if you have one, has the wrong school on it?

I don't understand your answer.

Does your diploma have "Saint John's University" on it, or does it have "St. John's University" on it?

Because the one above clearly has "Saint John's" as does a similar example sold in your school's official store.

No, the bottom is a commercial frame, and your university only licenses "St. John's" as its registered word mark.

Can you answer the question, does the salutation of your diploma have "St. John's" on the actual parchment? Yes or no? If you aren't an SJU grad, that is ok.

I just want to know if the St. John's University is so ignorant, as you put it, to put the wrong school (your words) on what are perhaps the most important documents that they produce.

That's for an argument over what the official name of the University is.

However, if you are talking about the St. John's that is a member of the New Big East, this is official logo at the bottom of their website:

and up at the top of that page, this how St. Johns sports is marketed at their own website:

... so it seems pretty clear that Saint John's University of New York "goes by" St. John's.

BTW what happened to playing at MSG? I thought you guys could just take it from the Big East? I guess ESPN was wrong huh? Our contract was a little harder to break than originally thought huh?
The BIG EAST will do fine...what will be interesting will be which will draw better and have more TV Viewer interest....the league with Syracuse, Notre Dame, Pitt, Louisville, Duke and UNC or the league with Marquette, Georgetown, Saint John's, Xavier and Nova...I'm not sayn...juz sayn....05-nono
1. It's St. John's not Saint John's. We shared a league for almost a decade, you should know better.
St. is an abbreviation for Saint. As a St. John's alum you should know this. So you were correcting him for nothing. Whenever you hear people speaking about the school, they say Saint John's. The abbreviation isn't an official thing, it's just easier to spell. New Yorkers are notoriously lazy about such things. Either way is technically correct.
No it's not correct. Saint John's is a school in minnesota. We only go by St. John's. We are not lazy it's the name of our school. It is not "technically correct".
So the TV announcer don't say SAINT John's when talking about the school? 04-jawdrop But you are lazy, just like the rest of NYC, and your excuse is a load of 01-rivals. Trying to differentiate between your school and a school that nobody on the face of the Earth outside of Minnesota knows is ludicrous.

From now on I will call the school ST John's. Screw the Saint. There are no saints in New York, just a bunch of lazy hypocrites.

Well, in defense of these guys, I actually do think the legal name of controlling entity is "St. John's University, New York Corporation". "St. John's" doesn't appear to have been applied for as a registered trademark until 1995 though so I don't know how militant they were about standardizing their university-wide branding prior to that era. However, I just find it hilarious that they are getting so bent out of shape when their own university prints diplomas with "Saint" on it, essentially calling their own university ignorant, as if St. isn't a universally recognized abbreviation of the word Saint.

However, I don't think you can justify calling NYC, which has amassed one of the greatest concentrations of wealth in the history of the world, as lazy.

If anyone can find any sports magazine, newspaper or boxscore from the last 50+ years that has ever referred to the Redmen or Red Storm as "Saint John's", that would be helpful. I've only seen their athletic teams written as "St. John's".
