Father/son sports duos - QuestionSocratic - 02-11-2016 10:52 AM

There have been many fathers and sons who have excelled at sports. And even in different sports (eg. Calvin & Grant Hill, David & Corey Robinson) but tonight might mark a unique combo.

Carlton Bailey was a starting linebacker for the Buffalo Bills during their Super Bowl era. He stayed in Buffalo and raised his son, Justin, as a hockey player. Now Justin has been called up and will play his first game with the Sabres tonight.

That is pretty cool. Same City, different sport.

This is poor parenting. Good parents don't let their kids play for Buffalo-based teams! (ZING!)

Soon enough there may not be another Buffalo based team.

I actually think that the Toronto Bills will hang on in Buffalo a bit longer.

There's that small detail of the CFL and NFL handshake. We're more likely to see the London Bills or even the Sydney Bills than the Buffalo Bills (that'd be one heck of a plane ride BTW).

Ken Griffey and Jr. Both baseball
Barry Larkin (baseball) and Shane Larkin (basketball)

Has there ever been a father/son combination that played together. I mean in a real game not some ceremonial game. I don't know the answer, just asking the question.

When Gordie Howe came out of retirement, he played on the Whalers with his sons.

The Griffeys played together in Seattle. They were even in the same line up batting 2nd and 3rd I think.

Ken Griffey Sr. played his last two seasons in Seattle with Junior.

Tim Raines Sr. and Jr. played together in Baltimore one season.

Were the Gwynns active simultaneously?

No, but the Gwynn brothers (Tony Sr. and Chris) did play one season together in SD.

(baseball-reference.com has all this stuff)
