"NCAA hammers Donnie Tyndall, Southern Miss escapes further postseason ban" - MasMack - 04-08-2016 02:04 PM

http://www.sunherald.com/sports/college/conference-usa/university-of-southern-mississippi/article70705132.html

Essentially, Southern Miss will lose 5 scholarships over next 3 years (number self imposed by the university), 2 year post season ban (NCAA imposed) , vacant wins that involved players associated with investigation (NCAA imposed), and on probation the next 3 years (NCAA imposed).

Southern Miss has already served a 2 year post season ban, and the NCAA recognized that, so no further ban.

Also, Southern Miss had reduced scholarships by 1 the past 2 years. NCAA will recognize this. So only continue the one reduction per year scholarship lose over next 3 years.

Southern Miss has also already vacated all wins the named players participated in.

All things considered, the university came out a lot better than I could have every hoped for. Really the only effect today, the only thing that will change become of this ruling compared to yesterday, is we are now on a 3 year probation.

Time to close this chapter and move forward! SMTTT!!!!

Glad the future players aren't punished for his idiocy.

Also glad Tyndall is basically done in the NCAA. I think the only 10-year penalty was for that Baylor coach that covered up a player murdering a teammate.

There were some booster violations at Morehead while he was there, too.

In hindsight, that should have been a red flag. If you've got boosters ******* up at Morehead State, just imagine what you'll do with a larger, more enthusiastic FBS school fanbase.

You must remember who was in charge then. And he used a "committee" of boosters

You folks in Hattiesburg were very smart to treat this as seriously as you did on an in-house basis, right out of the gate. Showed a lot of institutional character (especially in contrast to some of the P5 cheats).

In any event, well done. The future will be bright.

We have a damn good AD who brought in his own compliance staff. Prior to this we had no one in compliance with a JD. Now we have 3.

Yes. Very proactive movement by both McGillis and Bennett. The way they handled it was top notch.

No doubt but things can only get better from what they were.

I thought Sadler did a pretty nice job all things considered, so it'll be interesting to see what he can do now that he can recruit guys without having to tell them they might be allowed to play in postseason tournaments.

Ole piss and MSU must have been caught cheating.

The NCAA allowing the two year self-imposed post-season ban was good to see. Based on the severity of the infractions, the NCAA could have hammered USM basketball even harder in my opinion. They got it right in making sure dough boy Tyndall probably never coaches in the NCAA ever again. He deserved his punishment. Now on the subject of the NCAA being fair in relation to schools like North Carolina, well we all know the hypocrisy of the NCAA.

And Yet, the University of North Carolina is still in full operation without even a hint of a penalty for it's scandalous behavior!!!!!!!
