Will UCLA pay enough to get someone with the pedigree they feel they deserve. The UC system just doesn’t hand out cash.

They were paying Mora $4-5m. They have a budget north of $100m for athletics. They can get a coach.

State funds are not allowed to be used. But the Bruins have massive donation base.

UCLA & Kelly are already talking ...

Per 247Sports' Bruin Report Online, that big name is former Oregon coach Chip Kelly.

"David Dunn, Kelly's agent is apparently flying into Los Angeles to meet with UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero and Associate Athletic Director Josh Rebholz," the report states.

As a Bay Area guy, I am all for UCLA hiring Chip Kelly. He has sucked for the last four or five years in coaching, not adapted to the changing game, and is a piss ant to get along with (zero people skills). No Phil Knight to bail him out.

Of course Chip Kelly applies for every job. He's pretty desperate.

Was a pretty uninspired hire from the start imo, they basically just tried to find Pete Carroll 2. In spite of that he did a lot better his first few years than I expected, you have to think that he was either doing a bad job in recruiting or player development given how they stumbled so much the last two years.

I hope they do find their guy. UCLA being so terrible is bad for the PAC-12.

UCLA can have Bret Bielema.

UCLA is one of those few schools often well-ranked in pre-season polls, gets touted early, and usually does not fulfill the lofty expectations. It may not be so much over-hype, because recruiting data indicates consistent, high quality classes.

Perhaps there are prep issues for the season and individual games. Maybe some prior coaches have encountered motivational issues that are frustrating in overcoming. Wonder if being in Los Angeles makes college coaching more challenging in terms of attitude, rather than resources? USC is there also with greater overall fb success. Still, numerous times USC is claimed to have the team of a decade, or longer, and ends up having a disappointing season.

Hopefully, this time, UCLA will find an improved coaching match.
