Indiana is 1-2 vs in-state opponents with a win over Notre Dame and losses to Indiana St and now Fort Wayne, who also beat them last year.

#9 Xavier - 81
Marshall - 77

Marshall could have one this one if late possession calls went their way. The Mouseketeers got a scare tonight.

Pete Carril coached Princeton teams would need two games to score that much.

The PAC12 is a strange basketball league...not sure how good any of their team's will be in March.

I'd say the same about the SEC after a night like last night. Four of them won by two scores or less, including TAMU eeking by Northern Kentucky, Bama needing to rally to get ahead of Mercer, and Auburn just squeezing past Murray State. All three are in or around the top 25 in RPI.

It's probably just the holidays, though. The weekend gave us some funky thrills, and it keeps coming this week. Maybe schools should lay off the gas and give the kids a break so they can, I don't know...actually enjoy the holiday break and recover from finals (assuming kids still take those)?

4 win A-State led #11 Wichita State by as much as 9 and led until about the 12 minute mark of the second half.

After a painful start to the season, Red Wolves mysteriously have improved the last two games since we had a senior quit.

RE: Laughable College Basketball Scores- Week 4 - The Cutter of Bish - 12-20-2017 12:15 PM

I don't know...Wichita State looks pretty one-dimensional. Oklahoma exposed it, and hopefully other teams took notes. Marshall can walk off the court all he wants...hey, dude...this is your style they're playing out there. If it frustrates you, change it up.

Wichita needs to stop believing salvation lies with the three. They have bigger and faster guys now...get some confidence and play in the box a little. Nothing worse than watching big teams standing around the lane too scared to play inside and underneath the rim. Especially when the other team will have to contest what you're doing, giving you other ways to get three-point plays.

Marshall is going to look like the Few of old out there if he doesn't change it up a little. It's nice if Wichita can find its way to the tournament most years, but to then under-perform once in it because you don't have your A-game that night with running down the floor and hurling three's with reckless abandon when you have guys who can physically outmatch your opponent is just embarrassing.

Wow!

USC is in a defensive funk. They've given up 85+ points in three of their last four games. They did take my UCSB Gauchos down but even we scored 87 on them.

Xavier was up 50-27 early 2nd half, and they had a double-digit lead until around 30 seconds were left in the game. The outcome was never in doubt.

Also, they did this without Macura and Gates.

Billyjack are you saying they blew a 10 PTS lead in under a minute to lose by 4?

It was like a 15 pt Xavier lead at the under 4 minute timeout. With around 30 seconds left it was 77-67 with Xavier leading. Final score of Xavier winning 81-77 was due to garbage points at the end.

It wasn't like there were 12 lead changes in the 2nd half.

UC Riverside 73
Valpo 60

If Ball State didn't do it, UC Riverside definitely slammed the door on Valpo's at-large hopes. They need the MVC auto bid.

Georgia State 71
UMass 63
In Amherst, no less.

Wins against Providence and Georgia. Provy's still in the top 50 of RPI, and Georgia within the top 60.

Might just be the weirdest team to figure out in D1 this season.

Are we seeing more upsets this year or is it more that certain multi-bid conferences that are getting beaten this year? (PAC/A-10)

You have to account for some of the teams in any conference are likely good for the role of a punching bag, but it seems to be spread out this year so far. The SEC has been doing their share of head-scratcher's, too, and they are an RPI darling so far (8 top-50 RPI teams).

For as competitive as the A10 can be, it has its fair share of garbage in the conference. Fordham, George Mason, and Duquesne aren't any good. It just doesn't help when Richmond, St. Joe's, SLU, and some others also aren't good. I doubt we'd be posting Fordham, GMU, and Duquesne losses in this thread series if the rest of the conference was delivering. It's not like we do the same in the Mountain West toward that garbage heap that is San Jose State, or the usual cellar dweller in the AAC, ECU.

Oddly enough, A10 still has five RPI top-100 teams. KenPom's got 4, though there isn't a single squad in the top 50. PAC's got 6 in KP, 8 in RPI (and six of the eight are 50-100). Both have two apiece in the RPI Top 50, but it's not like St. Bonaventure's a lock for anything the same way the Arizona's currently are. And it's not like the A10 hasn't been snubbed before with teams with numbers that look safe, so, URI can't crap the bed in the conference schedule much at all.
