CUSA RPI End of OOC Schedule - MT FAN - 12-26-2017 04:27 PM

Here are the current RPI's for the conference after the OOC part of the schedule. I was hoping we would do a little better than this, but here we are again. 03-puke

Now imagine a conference schedule that allows the top five teams to play each other four times (two home, two away). That'd do wonders for their RPIs and make a second NCAA bid or multiple NIT bids a lot more achievable a dream.

That's about how it's looked every year for the last few with the top five moved around a little here and there and maybe a tad higher. We went 9-4 with a decent schedule and one bad loss. Don't know what else we could do other than win a couple of those losses. Morehead and W&M would have kept us in top 100 probably, with losses to only Xavier and Illinois. Or even just beating Xavier with a better first half effort. I guess I'm saying I feel like we've done what we could do to be in a position to help the conference.

Thank goodness we played at Michigan (36) and at Florida St (40) or we would've easily been in the 300s for our OOC games.

Actually, if you played two sub 500 teams at home who had a combined record of 9-12 and an average RPI of 225 between the two teams and won those two games, your RPI would be exactly the same at 220.

However, your support to the conference would be significantly better. Instead of everyone in the league who plays you taking a hit due to your .333 OOC win percentage everyone in the league would be playing a team team with a 56% win percentage going towards half of the RPI.

If you played those same two sub 500 teams on the road and beat them your RPI would be 200 right now and you would still be bringing a plus non-conference record to further benefit the league. Playing guaranteed losses on the road doesn't necessarily help the RPI and it does absolutely nothing to help the league. In fact, it hurts the league.

Had the lead at halftime at Michigan, so not a guaranteed loss anymore. FSU blew us out, but we took 11-1 Miss. St. to the wire. We don't have guaranteed losses anymore. Sorry.

I forgive you. Unfortunately, they don't give out RPI points for almost winning, playing one good half, or - you know - just getting blown out some of the time.

Yeah. If we beat your ass, you'll get a double whammy though. That will be fun.

Yep. No doubt. You Southern Miss guys are great conference partners.

Oh and if "ifs" and "buts" we're candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas.

Man, we (ODU) dropped like a rock just for playing Norfolk State.

RE: CUSA RPI End of OOC Schedule - odu09 - 12-27-2017 10:17 AM

I believe CUSA is #17? That's a small improvement from last year I think, right? Weren't we around 21-24?

Yeah, but no chance we get back into top 12 until Charlotte and UTEP at a minimum get their **** figured out.

I had some.hope when we joined cusa of a decent basketball conference with odu, uab, Charlotte, wku, utep, and mt serving as the core, but Charlotte and utep have been huge let downs. Wku has been too, but to a lesser degree. Mt on the other hand has exceeded my expectations. Kermit is doing a great job there.

RE: CUSA RPI End of OOC Schedule - ThreeifbyLightning - 12-27-2017 10:45 AM

By the time the season ends we will be 14th or 15th, so definitely an improvement over last year. Still one bid though.

Man what's going on with UAB? That is disappointing, you guys have too good of a team to be that low....Biggest surprise is FAU, everyone else is about where we thought they would be...Lane coaching hoops too?

They've been negatively affected by playing really bad teams. Their last three opponents have a combined record of 0-34. The loss to a 2-10 team didn't help either. They have the schedule FIU should be playing.

Really? I would hope if MTSU runs through the conference but is the champion runner up in the tournament they would get the at-large. Hope is the key word unfortunately.

If we weren't getting in with a 30-3 record last year (and we weren't) there is no chance with where we are now. We have ZERO top 50 wins.

If WKU runs through with only 1 maybe 2 losses in conference, could possibly get an at large. One top 15 win and another in the top 50..... but the odds are very bad
