Random Question for La Tech Fans..."The Waterboy" - HERD1 - 12-31-2017 07:06 PM

So we were watching Adam Sandler's, "The Waterboy" and I was wondering... Were there any scenes in the movie that were filmed on your campus or that featured your school?

***ATTENTION: This is not a derogatory post (as things quickly went downhill comment wise). This is about buildings, facilities, land, or other outdoor imagery that may have been filmed in or around La Tech's campus. This isn't about people or stereotypes.***

To add another question; So I was watching football porn recently (you know because of bowl games). I was wondering if any of that scene was filmed in LatEch.

I don't think so. I have a question for Marshall fans. I was watching "Deliverance" the other day and I was wondering.... Were any scenes in that movie filmed around Huntington, WV? Were any Marshall alums featured in that movie? I was thinking the ones who took a "liking" to Ned Beatty were from Huntington, WV and were Marshall alums. I could be wrong though. See how easy that was smartarse.

I see what you did there.

Um, Deliverance set and filmed in Georgia, but nice try. I think the question was sincere as the big team in the movie wore red and blue and was filmed somewhere down there by the looks of the scenery. He probably thought your team may have helped fill out that roster. Guess not, since in the movie that team was good.

Georgia? Hum... They looked and acted like they were from West Virginia. Sincere? Come on don't be stupid. He was making a jab at Tech and people from Louisiana. It's all good because every state has stereotypes.

WOW talk about overly sensitive!!

That was a SERIOUS question. I'm not talking about any people in the movie that are obviously exaggerated or stereotyped. I was just wondering if any campus fields, buildings, or locations around the La Tech campus were used (exactly what my original post said). AND was there any La Tech imagery (not making fun of anyone or person...but like LOGOS, graphics, etc.) used in the movie that you know of.

Geez talk about self conscious. I would be proud to have part of our campus featured in any movie set, The Waterboy included.

Sorry to trigger some of the La Tech snowflakes, but this was a post about buildings, fields, and other outdoor imagery like bayous on or around the La Tech Campus, etc. AND NOT ABOUT PEOPLE OR STEREOTYPING ANYONE. GOOD GRIEF!

Uh, he was making a jab at Tech and people from North Louisiana. In cajun country they look more like this.

Thank you MUther. Yes, the big team at the beginning of the movie looked like they purposely mirrored La Tech. Part of the question was, were they? Was that actually supposed to be La Tech in the movie? And then were there any other outdoor shots close to or on the La Tech campus used? Fields, buildings, etc. The original post has nothing to do with PEOPLE or STEREOTYPING THEM.

RE: Random Question for La Tech Fans..."The Waterboy" - HERD1 - 12-31-2017 08:22 PM

I must say NOW... it's the over sensitivity, self consciousness, inferiority complex, and lack of reading comprehension by a few La Tech fans in this post that is making ya'll look stupid. Not anything I insinuated.

This was a totally benign and SINCERE post about land, buildings, fields, and filming locations.

Maybe some of the less easily triggered La Tech fans can answer the question.

I had heard it was shot around Nichols state. FAR from Ruston. Actually it was filmed in the orlando fla area

Oh man, I'm sorry that I'm so late to this party. It looks like fun.

So I was spending my pre-New Years watching reruns of the Beverly Hillbillies, and wondered if the "Texas Tea" opening scenes were filmed in Denton? Any comment Mean Greenies?

(See you next Saturday.)

My apologies if you weren't being a smartarse but you're definitely ignorant on what North Central Louisiana looks like. North Central Louisiana is located in the "piney hills" of Louisiana and looks nothing like the scenes from "Waterboy". Do this look like the movie "Waterboy"?

99% of the time if someone outside of Louisiana brings up the movie "Waterboy" to someone from Louisiana their being a smartarse.

RE: Random Question for La Tech Fans..."The Waterboy" - SVHerd - 12-31-2017 09:36 PM

I have to say, I often wondered where the stadium scenes were shot. Geezus, it was a simple question and I didn't take it as a backhanded slap. O

RE: Random Question for La Tech Fans..."The Waterboy" - AustinFromUNT - 12-31-2017 09:43 PM

Necessary Roughness was actually filmed here at UNT. Also, note the green and white jerseys worn.

RE: Random Question for La Tech Fans..."The Waterboy" - Goherd73 - 12-31-2017 10:00 PM

IMBD says most of it was filmed in Florida but it does say Louisiana was one of the 8 locations used for filming. Stetson and Citrus Bowl were used.

RE: Random Question for La Tech Fans..."The Waterboy" - MUther - 12-31-2017 10:39 PM

What some of you might not think about is that we've never played down there. We've not been scheduled. We don't know the area, the flora, or anything about LaTech grounds or buildings or people. We were never in the WAC or Sunbelt and the closest we've come to Louisiana is New Orleans with Tulane which is hardly representative of your state. I wrongly assumed all of Louisiana was delta and swamp. Never been there. I've been to every state except the 3 gulf states. It's just never been on my way to anywhere and can not get away for sporting events since I bought the bar.

But I understand that many of the ******* teams you've been formerly associated with probably treated you like ****. Perhaps you could give us the benefit of the doubt as not having had ANY history with your team or it's fans.

RE: Random Question for La Tech Fans..."The Waterboy" - OptimisticOwl - 12-31-2017 10:44 PM

There are five Gulf states.

I have heard it said that Louisiana s divided in three parts - North Louisiana, south Louisiana, and New Orleans. But I will let the LA natives rule on whether that is accurate.

Louisiana est omnis divisa in partes tres.

Beautiful. I have to admit, as MUther said, and you are right I was ignorant to the overall geography of Louisiana. It is one of the few states I have never been to. I knew La Tech was in Ruston, but have never taken the time to look up where your town sits within the state. Don't really know exactly how far south you have to go for things to get "swampy" either.

As a fan from a state who gets stereotyped probably the most, that's definitely not where I was coming from. It was really just a simple random question that I thought you all would be proud to speak on, honestly. I think it's cool to hear about what parts of our CUSA campuses or fields have been featured in movies...like the UNT poster commented about Necessary Roughness. That's interesting.
