Split National Championship? - EvilVodka - 01-01-2018 05:28 PM

I don't think it would happen, but it would be hilarious if the AP Poll put UCF as #1 if Alabama wins the Playoff

They have split championships in the past before.

Zero chance. Might get a few protest votes, but I think I think about 5 is as the highest you might see UCF and I would guess a spot or two lower.

The AP had Alabama 5 spots ahead of UCF in their last poll, and they are going to jump UCF ahead of them after Alabama beats #1 Clemson and say #3 Oklahoma all because UCF beat #7 Auburn?

Plus, the playoffs determine the champ, the AP poll doesn't determine anything any more.

Those aren't reasons for "not thinking" it will happen, as that implies there is some possibility that it could.

They are reasons why it 100% won't happen. 07-coffee3

13-0 team gets a few first place votes and Big 10 & 12 shutout of playoffs, one step closer to playoff expansion.

UCF Golden Knights.

2017 Undefeated 13-0 American College Football Champions.

Plenty of CFB national championships have been claimed with less justification.

Fun fact of the day, UCF put up more points on Auburn than any other team did all year........ yes even all those SEC teams, 2 of which are in the playoffs.

They lack the balls to go against their P5 overloards.

Glad a hurricane prevented Georgia Tech from embarrassing themselves yet again last year.

I think the AP is a real indication of who is #1, at least it’s not bought and paid for like cfp!

RE: Split National Championship? - goodknightfl - 01-02-2018 12:36 AM

Maybe some day UCF can be the quality loser champion of College football.

Like big boys, Ga, and Ala both of who lost to Auburn who UCF beat on a neutral field. In the mean time we will watch SEC strut like a chicken with its head cut off explaining how they are the best.

This year really makes things dubious when 2 SEC are in the playoff, both defeated by another SEC CFP entrant that loses to an undefeated G5 in the Peach Bowl. Very easily could Auburn have been in the playoff this season.

If Auburn is interchangeable with Georgia and Alabama and UCF is interchangeable with Auburn why aren't all 4 of them fielded into an 8 team playoff?

All evidence points to the highest G5 capable of handling an autobid into an 8 team playoff regardless if that means playing the #1 in the first round. UCF could have taken #1 Clemson today with the opportunity.

Utah, Boise, TCU now UCF with multiple CFP bowl wins has proven the access slot is more than a charity slot. The busters at this level are good enough to take down Top 4 teams in a bowl game.

The only dud was the Hawaii Sugar Bowl against Georgia 10 years ago. Boise State's first Fiesta Bowl victory was on a trick play. Those were the days when the ability of the non-BCS to compete was in question.

My question has always been--why are we using a selection committee when we don't need to? We spend an entire season determining the best team in each FBS conference. If you truly want to keep the regular season relevant--then don't devalue a conference championship. Go to 8. All five P5 champs. Top G5 champ gets in. Let the biased old men pick of the selection committee decide the top G5 and two wild cards. I prefer that the actual results on the field determine the other 5 playoff slots.

RE: Split National Championship? - NIU007 - 01-02-2018 09:30 AM

UCF is another good argument for an actual playoff.

It’s laughable that they haven’t figured this out yet. My guess is they probably realize this would be better but they’re getting pressure from the other bowls to keep that system propped up
