Final Coaches Poll Top 25 released; Troy just misses out - CardinalBlackTrojan - 01-09-2018 01:17 PM

The Final Coaches Poll was just released. Troy was just two spots away from finishing ranked in the Top 25, and actually jumped ahead of FAU in vote totals, which was surprising.

5. Ohio State
6. Wisconsin
7. UCF
8. Penn State
9. TCU
10. USC
11. Notre Dame
12. Auburn
13. Miami
14. Oklahoma State
15. Washington
16. Michigan State
17. Northwestern
18. LSU
19. Stanford
20. Mississippi State
21. South Florida
22. Boise State
23. NC State
24. Memphis
25. Virginia Tech

I'm not sure they would have made if they had lost to, say, Arkansas State instead of South Alabama. 11-2 in the Sun Belt, even with the win over LSU, is looked down upon. App State went 11-2 in 2015, with the only losses being national runner-up Clemson and the greatest, most wonderfulest program in Sun Belt history, Arkansas State. App wasn't close to making the Top 25.

Respect for top G5 teams has gotten worse over the years. Unbeaten TCU finished second in 2010. Unbeaten Boise finished fourth in '09 and fifth in '06. Utah was second in 2008 and fourth in 2004. UCF this year, with four wins over 10-win teams, finished sixth in the AP and seventh in the Coaches. How could we expect a two loss Sun Belt team to crack the top 25 when an unbeaten AAC team can't crack the top 5?

We made top 25 with a 7-1 record last year. We are much better this year

I absolutely agree that Troy was much better this year than last. I'm just saying that the voters don't care. Zero losses at the end of the year, and you'll barely make the top ten. One loss out of the SBC, you'd be fortunate to make the top 20. Two losses, whether one had been to USA or Arkansas State, and you're on the outside looking in.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility that we might see a preseason ranked Troy vs a preseason ranked Boise State on the opening week of college football next season.

Boise State will likely be preseason ranked, yes.

Troy will not be preseason ranked. Neither the AP nor Coaches' polls are going to have Troy in the Top 25 after our starting QB and RB have graduated. Troy will have some votes, but that's it.

and our 7-day stretch losing to 2 bad teams...both App and Troy likely would've made the final cut or been on the cusp of it.

Should have tweeted some support to AL before the CFP final.

I'm surprised App received a couple votes.

At least App made Toledo disappear, and picked up a couple of votes in the process.
