Yep
Glad he's playing closer to the potential he thought he could.

RE: Randy Haynes - Gilesfan - 01-17-2018 03:37 PM

We would be relying on X. Green to start and Heuitt and Godwin to replace Greens mins. Its a good thing he stayed.

Giles, you're all over the place regarding Randy. You have stated several times that you would rather he didn't shoot, now it is a good thing he stayed. We don't need a guy on the floor that doesn't score and that's what we would have if Randy didn't shoot.

I agree that he is playing better than Green if that is part of your thoughts on this. I would have not muddied the waters by adding Heuitt and Godwin into the mix. I'm not convinced that Green is providing more than Hueitt would be with comparable minutes. Not saying he isn't. Just saying that I am not convinced that he is since I have not gotten to see enough of Michael. Anyway, regarding Randy, I am glad he returned regardless of who is playing behind him. He has added value to the team. Now if only Fields hadn't left ODU would have a serviceable backup point guard and Caver wouldn't have to log 40 minutes a game.

The strange thing about this place is comstuctive criticism means you hate the guy and hes trash. All ive said is he cant shoot 3s. I wish he would not.

That doesnt mean he isnt a better player right now than a trio of freshman.

FWIW, Fields is really struggling for Radford.

How is Fields able to play this season. Didn't he have to sit out?

The time you wasted of mine was trying to state that he can't shoot based on stats and not watching. I never talked about 3s, really don't care about specialists. Haynes could shoot and still can, wherever he is on the court at the time.

RE: Randy Haynes - DaBigBlue - 01-17-2018 10:33 PM

JJ had a Top-25 team with two players who didn't shoot.

RE: Randy Haynes - ODU BBALL - 01-17-2018 11:00 PM

While making the Top 25 is an accomplishment, it hardly means that the season was a big success story. It was bitter sweet at best. His Top 25 team lost the next game after they were ranked and dropped out of the rankings. His Top 25 team couldn't win the regular season C-USA title. His Top 25 team couldn't win the C-USA Tournament. His Top 25 team failed to make the NCAA Tournament as an at large.
They made the NIT and played decently, but .....

He had one player (Freeman) that took about half of the team's shots which covered for the near total lack of scoring by the two members you are referring to. Not the best way to build an offense.

RE: Randy Haynes - LetsGoODU - 01-18-2018 01:31 AM

As awesome as it was to be ranked, we were never the 25th best team in the country.

RE: Randy Haynes - mac - 01-18-2018 07:31 AM

Great article by Ed Miller. Stories like that are why I even care to follow sports. Glad to see Haynes doing well on and off the court. Also happy he took the right fork in the road when he had to choose which path to take.

I'm now a Haynes fan.

Me too - I recall him saying at the preseason scrimmage “We are balling this year” to me was a sign of confidence as well. Too bad some posters will only focus on the negative primarily the bloating type end results . The game of basketball is awesome and seeing student athletes at our great university succeed in life is the type of reward I receive.

Strange as this is going to sound, the Top 25 poll doesn't necessarily mean these teams are the best 25 in the country. It's all about who is winning against whom, and who is doing it lately. Duke could lose 5 in a row and drop from the rankings while ODU kept winning and get ranked number 25. That doesn't necessarily mean ODU would beat Duke. The poll is not a power ranking or guessing which team would beat another.

Slow week here ladies and gentlemen? I like how the Haynes talk switched to Top 25 in less than one full page of posting :D

So why not talk about Randy?

Hope he scores 40 tonight!

I hope he scores 50!

Yeah! Well... I hope he outscores FIU by himself.
