Charlotte Hires WKU's Zack McKay - TribeNiner - 02-09-2018 09:58 AM

It appears that Charlotte has found a new marketing director in WKU's Zack McKay.

"Well, today I say goodbye to @WKUSports. It’s been an unbelievable five years on the Hill. I can’t thank WKU, and the Bowling Green community enough for making this place feel like home. On Monday, I start a new chapter with the @Charlotte49ers and can’t wait to get started." https://t.co/aTb4MvgRyw

For our WKU brethren, do you have any opinions or insight? I'd love to hear what you have to say (both good and bad) about him or your marketing efforts over the past 5 years.

Apologies if this is buried in another thread, but I hadn't seen it.

Marketing at WKU has always been somewhat lacking. My guess is that has more to do with budget constraints than anything. I guess they do the best they can with what they have to work with. They are good about getting local businesses involved with stuff and giving back to the community with things like big brothers & big sisters, etc. Zack is a really good guy though. Met and talked with him on numerous occasions. He will be a good addition to your athletics department.

Thanks for the feedback. We need all the help we can get. Especially with community engagement.

Can you please poach the goofball Wood Selig away from ODU? pretty please. I will throw in Bobby Wilder too as a freebie.

I have no idea who he is and our marketing is horrendous. I hope for your sake it was a budget constraint but I don't know.

William Zack McKay Director of Marketing made $46,896.00 last year
Athletic Marketing has a budget of $296,550.75

Out of that 296k, $145,950.75 was spent on wages for 2 full time and one part time....from looking at the total budget you would think they would just shut it down. Western did cut over 50% from that budget from 3 years ago

Our previous director of marketing made $60,000ish, so assuming he is getting the same that's a decent pay raise and possibly more budget to work with as well.

RE: Charlotte Hires WKU's Zack McKay - Rojogrande - 02-10-2018 11:16 AM

Cost of living in Charlotte compared to Bowling Green makes that bump from $47kish to $60kish pretty much a wash I would think though. Cost of living in BG is under the national average last I heard. So you get more bang for your buck here. I know my house which is around 150k would cost upwards of 400k in Nashville market. I assume Charlotte is not a whole lot different from other major cities in that respect.

My bad if somebody else already asked this, but what's the problem exactly? He was the guy responsible for taking both of our schools D1 and my impression was that he left us on good terms and in a position of strength before he went to y'all. Is that not the Monarch Selig experience? Just curious is all.

Just depends where you live. If you want to live in the city limits in a historic or high end neighborhood, you'll pay a ton. If you want to live in a middle class neighborhood in the university area, you can get a decent home in the 200s.

RE: Charlotte Hires WKU's Zack McKay - ghostofclt - 02-10-2018 05:43 PM

clt says Charlotte home prices are going up, but you can always go outside of mecklenburg to get more value. But you have to live there.

Very happy to no longer be living in The Great State of Mecklenburg. Lower taxes and better neighbors are a plus. I can get to uptown in 30 minutes and the University in 20, so it's no inconvenience at all.

A growing number/percentage of the Charlotte metro area merely rent/lease their living spaces. So housing prices do not have to be a factor and lease rates are reasonable in University City and Charlotte in general.

I always found Charlotte apartment rates to be competitive, as they want your business, just from the sheer number of complex options and the glut of units always available.

I thought it was agreed no Conf USA school would steel coaches or personnel from in the same conference?

We probably agreed to that when we were not last in the conference.

? Not sure what that means.

It means now that we are in last place, count us in for poaching, rustling or whatever Texas word that means stealing to get a good coach. You don't need to worry though, your coach is safe.

RE: Charlotte Hires WKU's Zack McKay - ghostofclt - 02-13-2018 11:07 PM

clt says we will take your coach, and your affordable home.
