RE: Latest Pa 18 - Tom in Lazybrook - 03-05-2018 11:19 PM

I don't think Lamb wins, but good God, if he won in THAT district....ouch for the GOP and Trump.

A R+11 Voting Index
Trump won by 20 percent there in 2016
No scandal on either side
GOP (including PACs) outspending the Dem by at least 10 to 1
95% non-Hispanic white
Large Coal/Steel sector employment
Relatively low college degree rate

There are about 120 Republican held districts that I'd think were more likely to flip than this district. This should be a 'hopeless' district for the Dems.

That being said, I've heard increasing chatter that even some GOP folks are saying Saccone is going to lose. I'm just looking at the demographics of this district and am saying to myself....not even I think that the Dems can pull this off.

We will see a week from tomorrow I suppose.

This would be an absolutely STAGGERING upset if Lamb could pull it off.

RE: Latest Pa 18 - Machiavelli - 03-06-2018 05:16 AM

Maybe this why we heard about the tariffs last week the same time McConnel and a Ryan did. Lose the house and a lot of Republicans are going to jail. Lose this district and that really energizes D’s. A lot of chatter on Twitter Ryan protects Nunes from obstruction charges also. It’s a web that they will all be caught up in.

I know nothing about the guy or the district, but looking at the web page, it looks like the democrat largely supports the Trump agenda.

5 out of 7 of his priorities are in sync with Trump. I never said "Republican", I said Trump. Swamp republicans disagree with Trump on Unions, Social Security, and infrastructure. If these are truly Lamb's priorities, he will get a lot of Trump voters. None of his priorities have anything to do with sex change operations, gays, indentity politics, open borders, or handouts. Again, I don't know anything about the guy or the sincerity of his website, but his agenda appears to be a whole lot closer to Trump than Pelosi.

I believe the tariffs were ABSOLUTELY an attempt by Trump to stave off defeat in PA18

Problem is that republicans do the same thing. Or perhaps more correctly, they don't come up with any ideas except on abortion and gay rights, they just try to keep the status quo. So we move left, slowly but surely.

I want to see a republican say we're going to balance the budget, have lower and flatter and broader tax rates (including a consumption tax), replace Obamacare with universal private care/insurance, and have a subsistence level universal basic income to replace our current focused and means tested welfare hodge-podge.

Domestic policy: People who work should live better than people who don't work.
Foreign policy: Treat our friends better than we treat our enemies.
Military policy: Never fight a war that we don't intend to win.

Develop a platform around those principles and stick to them.
