FAU Hires USM DC..... - usmbacker - 03-06-2018 05:02 PM

Good hire by the Owls. USM has the lowest salary pool for assistant coaches in CUSA or even the Sun Belt. Our coaches are there for the taking. USM had the 20th ranked defense in the country last year. With Kiffen's offense and Pec's defense, look for FAU to repeat.

Take him. Maybe we won't lead the conference in personal fouls.

Yeah I mean.....we don't have any money.

Pec was makng $125K a year at USM as DC. Last year FAU's DC made 300K. Don't know what they will pay Pec, but I am sure it is a great deal more than USM was paying him.

So who do we replace him with right before Spring practices start?

Boom! Big time upgrade. Florida State had him mentioned as a DC or LB coaching prospect too

RE: FAU Hires USM DC..... - TTT - 03-06-2018 05:48 PM

Pecararo's defense gave up 540 yards of offense to Mason Fine and North Texas....AT HOME. His defense also gave up 417 yards of offense to Spencer Brown and UAB....AT HOME. Brown ran for 209 yards against us...yikes. Sure, he took care of some teams he should have...but he's not some special DC with a super bright future. He's an average DC at best. I'm not losing any sleep over him leaving. Congrats FAU. Although, I'd be worried about UNT/Mason Fine and Spencer Brown/UAB with him as your DC tho.

It was definitely a great move for him. He will get a huge pay raise this year and next year at whatever cash cow job Kiffin takes in 2019.

Yeah, I thought this announcement sounded like good news for North Texas too. After watching FAU take us to the wood shed twice last season. This hire gives me some hope for our home game with the Owls this season.

On the flip side, this is terrible news for Southern Miss and C-USA overall. It will be bad for the conference if the pay at Southern Miss does not improve. I would hate to see USM become the farm team for the conference. I know some USM fans still bemoan that they were left behind by the AAC programs. Some even feel they are too good for C-USA. I hope announcements like this will not become common for USM.

How many times can I "say" this: While our salary pool is nothing to get excited about, our OC is being paid by U of Kentucky (I think USM throws in a few bucks), which makes a low salary pool look even lower.

State of Mississippi also does not allow athletic budgets to be SUBSIDIZED, like so many in C-USA.

As for FAU repeating, maybe so, maybe not, but with ONE DECENT season in your history, I wouldn't be quite so bombastic! 04-cheers

Would mean our coach is desirable to be hired which is something all small schools want. Your D.C. was taken by fau for the same reason

Kentucky's checks to our OC are over. He was being paid 50k by USM and I believe 250 a year by Kentucky. He will go down to 125K this year I guess. That is why he was after the Marshall OC job.

Yes...but the salaries folks on here keep repeatin' INCLUDED the 2 years USM was practically paying him nothing!....and our OC WILL be underpaid, but it won't be 125K..

I saw where UNT took in only $14 million in 2014...but had expenditures of $35 million. Somebody had to make that sh!tfall up!

clt inquires about your FB coach

RE: FAU Hires USM DC..... - Thegoldstandard - 03-06-2018 11:57 PM

So the weeks things went bad he was called the SWAC coach, and we are melting down about it now?

Because other schools in our conference can easily poach our coaches.

I agree with you. Everyone is chasing the money. Nothing wrong with that.

RE: FAU Hires USM DC..... - shiftyeagle - 03-07-2018 09:13 AM

If FAU is offering roughly double the money, he'd be an idiot not to go.

Plus the prospect of Kiffin landing a "destination" job in 2019.

RE: FAU Hires USM DC..... - owlcountry40 - 03-07-2018 09:53 AM

Lol Kiff Daddy just snatching coaches.

Do you think when he was debating to leave for more money in a way nicer area he was factoring that you guys beat Alabama like 20 years ago?

I don't know what is more amusing, the fact that you call your coach 'kiff daddy' or that you think your program "snatched" an elite coach.
