I really hope UTSA can take advantage of 4 games with Columbia and at least take 3.

Need more baseball talk since Tech is done with basketball. How is everyone feeling about their teams? I am a little higher on Tech than I was 1 week ago.

SP has been phenomenal against what I would describe as cumulative average competition. The Frisco Series being above average while the rest is avg or slightly worse.

Bullpen has 3 solid arms. Need 2 more to step up when called upon and have a couple seniors who have had great success in previous seasons so I am optimistic.

Hitting has started to improve. Not much power but OBP is getting better. I think the lineup is pretty well set 1-7 but need 2 other guys to emerge. Their is a freshman with some power that I would like to see emerge but that may not be likely.

Long story short if starting pitching remains solid and our offense continues to improve, even slightly, there is a chance for a solid finish in the conference.

For USM we've got a great Friday pitcher (Sandlin), a pretty good Saturday pitcher (Powers) and to this point average to below average pitching after those 2, bullpen included. Hitting wise we have been knocking the ball all over the place minus our midweek game at Alabama 2 days ago but that was attributed to the fact we forgot our bats in Hattiesburg and had to borrow some little league kids' bats who were playing a pickup game behind the left field wall before the game (hence the reason for just 2 hits and 0 runs).

Not saying we will, but I wouldn’t be shocked if we drop our series to Georgia Southern.

Looks like they have some pitchers, and our’s are struggling.

Usm bats are still MIA. 0 runs and 1 hit through 4 innings as we trail 2-0

They call it “Pete Taylor Park magic”....usm with another walkoff win. Matt Wallner with an opposite field walkoff 2R HR. Nice time for his first HR this year. USM wins 3-2 after allowing GSU to score both their runs in the top of the 9th to take a 2-1 lead.

Rice loads the bases with no outs but loses again, this time 7-5.

We are going to have to win the conference tourney again to get in the field.

Really, really sick of Graham-ball and I'm an unbiased observer as I was not a Rice fan during the glory days.

Our pitching has been $hit, but that's partially explained by our #2, #3, and #4 starters all being injured. More disturbingly, I think we leave more runners on base than any team in America. I wonder if that stat is kept. We have to be top 10.

RE: March 9-11 baseball (last OOC weekend) - thefaU - 03-10-2018 08:18 PM

Florida Atlantic beat Seton Hall 4-2 yesterday and 11-3 today as the game was called in B8 due to weather.

Game #3 tomorrow has moved up to 11 a.m., weather permitting. And don't forget about the time change overnight!

Great idea, Collin. We're in a similar situation as Southern Miss, like usm99 pointed out. Both Miednik on Fridays and Marman on Saturdays have been stellar on their respective starting days, but Coletti and Prather have somewhat struggled on Sundays and during the week. Luckily we've been able to play our defense and win some of those games. Our bullpen has also been able to come in and get the job done when we've had the lead early on. Yet we're still struggling offensively at the plate. We're currently dead last in the conference for overall batting averages, but we're currently second in the conference, only to your Bulldogs, for overall ERA. We've been able to win most of our games due to pitching and defense, but if we expect to compete for the conference title or for an invite to the NCAA tournament, we need to continue to improve offensively, like we did today.

Looking forward for conference play to begin next weekend! We're playing Old Dominion at The Bud.

RE: March 9-11 baseball (last OOC weekend) - Volkmar - 03-10-2018 09:04 PM

We're stinking it up this weekend. Our pitching has done a pretty good job this season so far, but in comes an Ivy League team and the bottom falls out. Columbia was 1-7 heading into San Antonio, their only win a 4-3 decision over USF. They proceed to beat us 9-3 on Friday night, and then get a freaking 10-run 6th inning to beat us 11-7 in the early game today, before we finally get a 3-2 win in the 2nd game. Game 4 is tomorrow.

RE: March 9-11 baseball (last OOC weekend) - ExcitedOwl18 - 03-10-2018 09:15 PM

Rice wins game 2 of the day 6-1.

Hoping to even the series tomorrow.
