Is this what your diploma looks like?

Look at the bottom of your pic. St. John's. The degree is the only time they spell out Saint. Saint John's is a college in Minnesota well known for their long time coach who has like 700 wins or some such #.

It's St. John's and any former BE member should know that. The fact people don't just shows their own ignorance.

The bottom of the pic is the frame. The diploma only refers to the school as "Saint John's" and it does so twice.

So you're telling me that your diploma, if you have one, has the wrong school on it?

No. They just spelled out the name. It is St. John's. Thats the name of the school. S...t...J...o...h...n...'...s...

When did they adopt all the dots?

S...t...J...o...h...n...'...s...

1. It's St. John's not Saint John's. We shared a league for almost a decade, you should know better.
St. is an abbreviation for Saint. As a St. John's alum you should know this. So you were correcting him for nothing. Whenever you hear people speaking about the school, they say Saint John's. The abbreviation isn't an official thing, it's just easier to spell. New Yorkers are notoriously lazy about such things. Either way is technically correct.
No it's not correct. Saint John's is a school in minnesota. We only go by St. John's. We are not lazy it's the name of our school. It is not "technically correct".
So the TV announcer don't say SAINT John's when talking about the school? 04-jawdrop But you are lazy, just like the rest of NYC, and your excuse is a load of 01-rivals. Trying to differentiate between your school and a school that nobody on the face of the Earth outside of Minnesota knows is ludicrous.

From now on I will call the school ST John's. Screw the Saint. There are no saints in New York, just a bunch of lazy hypocrites.

Really Bit? The eat or be eaten city is full of lazy people? I guess lazy built all those sky scrapers huh? How many buildings are taller than 5 stories in all of WV? How about the subway system? Lazy people bild that too?

How many people are popping pills and sitting on their asses in WV?

Oh snap! WV and TN are lazier than NY! Wow!

The BIG EAST will do fine...what will be interesting will be which will draw better and have more TV Viewer interest....the league with Syracuse, Notre Dame, Pitt, Louisville, Duke and UNC or the league with Marquette, Georgetown, Saint John's, Xavier and Nova...I'm not sayn...juz sayn....05-nono

1. It's St. John's not Saint John's. We shared a league for almost a decade, you should know better.

2. Where was this "TV interest" when all the ACC posters were talking about how they could take the Garden if they wanted it. Looks like they wanted it but couldn't get it. Not sayin', just sayin'.

You keep harping on this one point trying to stir things up. But I recall most ACC fans saying that if the Acc were willing to go into MSG full time, they could eventually get MSG. You now full well that the ACC is not willing to go anywhere full time except Greensboro, and even that's not written in stone anymore. But if the Acc were willing to commit to a good number of years, then MSG would have a choice of UNC, Duke, Louisville, Syracuse, ND and Pitt as opposed to Nova, St Johns, Marquette, Providence, Butler and Seton Hall. Its a no brainer, and the BE is very fortunate, that the ACC wont commit to such a deal.

Okay, then explain how they get out of their contract with the Big East that runs until 2026? Is it worth it to get your balls sued off to sell the same amount of tickets?

The Dolans are idiots but their lawyers might not be...I assume there are clauses to void it.

Yes, if this current Big East loses key membership. Which isn't happening anytime soon.

Stereotyping an entire area like that seems to be a questionable strategy for someone from West Virginia. As easy as it would be to go back at you, the expression "it would be like shooting fish in a barrel" somehow comes to mind.

I don't understand your answer.

Does your diploma have "Saint John's University" on it, or does it have "St. John's University" on it?

Because the one above clearly has "Saint John's".

But the caption on the bottom of the diploma photo says "St. John's"... because everyone (or 99.9% of us) refers to the school that way... or, anyone surfing the Herft-Jones website would be confused without that lower caption that everyone is familiar with.

I just want to know if the St. John's University is so ignorant, as you put it, to put the wrong school (your words) on what are perhaps the most important documents that they produce.

Find something else from the school spelled that way.

There is nothing else more official than a University Degree. People hang these on the walls in their offices, in their homes, and you have to provide a copy of your degree in many cases for high level employment. Anyone who views those degrees will see that it says Saint Johns."" So it doesn't matter if Jerseys or newpapers or other media uses the term "St Johns." So whether a person uses "St Johns," or "Saint Johns," they would be correct, I would assume.

I would also assume that a person who has an actual "Saint Johns" degree would know that his degree says "Saint Johns" on it and therefore would not be going around telling folks who use the term "Saint Johns" that they are wrong.

Well, in defense of these guys, I actually do think the legal name of controlling entity is "St. John's University, New York Corporation". "St. John's" doesn't appear to have been applied for as a registered trademark until 1995 though so I don't know how militant they were about standardizing their university-wide branding prior to that era. However, I just find it hilarious that they are getting so bent out of shape when their own university prints diplomas with "Saint" on it, essentially calling their own university ignorant, as if St. isn't a universally recognized abbreviation of the word Saint. However, I don't think you can justify calling NYC, which has amassed one of the greatest concentrations of wealth in the history of the world, as lazy.

St. Could also stand for Street, as in "Street John". Seems to be a lot of them in NYC 03-lmfao

Both will do great and both will sell out, but nothing beats MSG.

You're right, I'm sure both will do well, and both will sell out. The baseball analogy would be one is playing at Citi Field, and the other is playing at Yankee Stadium.

Their really is no need for an analogy in explaining the difference between MSG and Barclays. Everyone already knows that MSG carries considerable more cache. But the fact that the ACC has all those elite level basketball schools with huge fan bases tells me which league will have the largest attendance and be getting the most media attention and making the most money.

Which is part of why its quite beside the point for this discussion. Lots of schools "go by" something that is not what shows up on their degrees.

And St. John's official seal says "st. john's":

Well if they both sell out it wont matter who has higher attendance since they would both be at capacity which is all the building can seat.

More official than every single thing the school puts out to the public? Like the school seal, logo, everything they sell and everything on it's website?

Are you implying I didn't graduate from St. John's University?

I don't know if you did or didn't, and don't care really, LOL.
But if you know that your degree says Saint Johns, why would you be so demanding that folks use the term St Johns instead of Saint Johns and telling them they are wrong for doing so?

RE: ACC selected by the Barclays Center over the B1G for Tournament
Since this is a sports message board, and we're all sports fans, and since I've only ever seen the Redmen/ Red Storm school written as "St. John's" in every sports article, newspaper, boxscore, uniform, yearbook, everything for 40+, 50+ years... then we on this site should probably use "St. John's"... I mean, c'mon... maybe a non-sports fan can screw it up, but this is pretty basic...

"St. John's".

Well if they both sell out it wont matter who has higher attendance since they would both be at capacity which is all the building can seat.

I don't think the BE will be selling out with butts in the seats. This March will certainly be very telling though.

Hey, St. John's last week beat the "The Georgia Institute of Technology". I say we all refer to the Yellow Jackets as "The Georgia Institute of Technology" from now on... I mean, it's on their diplomas...!
