Actually no. The football league is still going to be the ongoing conference. The "Big East" will be considered by the NCAA a new conference.
Notre Dame has a unique status in the prenup--it could be that they choose which group to go with.
I really don't think so. I could see it for the ACC- but not to go with the teams that are "leaving" without some compensation to the remaining schools...
Remember when the prenup is written. The main reasons for the 8-8 hybrid are A) BC bolted, so the football schools were down to 5 and B) Notre Dame wanted the hybrid, so they refused to join either group. (No Notre Dame, no 6-schools-for-5-years, so no autobid.) The pre-nup is written as an agreement between the I-A Schools, the Non-I-A Schools and Notre Dame. Is it that farfetched that there's a clause that Notre Dame gets to join whichever side they want in a split?
How do we know that? I don't think that the prenup has ever been seen by anyone outside the league.
All we have is what reporters are telling us that sources are telling them. which means partial information with each source putting his/her own spin on it.
