RE: Sporting News: Major ESPN layoffs Nov-Dec; 40-60 more
It's all about the house of mouse. There is a reason that Disney ended the Netflix deal, and then turned around and put ABC up for sale. The layoffs are a nothing burger. This is all about Disney's new streaming service. Disney doesn't care how much ESPN had to pay to retain the media rights for the NBA, NFL, or college sports. That's the profit off what? Two, Three Marvel movies? So no. Disney isn't worried about content rights. At least not right now. They are worried about slimming down and preparing to pull all of their content from streaming services and cable companies. Forcing everyone to purchase their service.
