RE: OT: Star Wars Thread [Warning: Spoilers]
(12-18-2015 08:18 AM)Stephen Shirley Wrote:  I get the criticism of the movie being redundant. But considering how the prequels completely screwed up the series with their cartoon characters and CGI overkill, TFA is effectively a giant reset button back to the original magic of Episodes IV-VI.

Every time TFA "recycled" catch phrases or scenarios from the original trilogy, the audience reacted with joy and excitement. It was like opening up a box from the attic to discover all of the pictures, toys and memorabilia from your youth. TFA was one giant conduit to happy memories from 30 years ago.

While I agree that episodes 1-3 lacked the heart and emotion of 4-6 they at least were original. TFA is nothing more than a rehash, it could be considered a reboot. BTW, I'm not a big fan of reboots, especially ones that occur within 20 years of the original.

TPM was somewhat slow and boring as it set up the prequel universe but it was infinitely more enjoyable (outside of Jar Jar Binks) because it had an original story.
Give me TPM, AOTC, and ROTS over TFA any day.

There is no reason to recycle those catchphrases or scenarios to get us in the mood for upcomng movies. That could've been better done by simply re-releasing the originals leading up to the new movie.

While the movie was ok, better than many, it could've been so much better.
