Now that the latest film in the Star Wars franchise has been released and the general fervor surrounding the long-awaited return to a galaxy far, far away has abated a little bit, fans of the franchise are already eagerly anticipating the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which will stand as the first anthology film to see release come December 2016. Thus far, there have only been a number of rumors regarding the film’s central protagonists, though it is known at this time that the main narrative will revolve around the Rebel Alliance’s efforts to secure the plans for the first Death Star (prior to the events of the original 1977 Star Wars film).

Currently, it is believed that the film will feature such fan-favorite characters as Darth Vader, and perhaps even Grand Moff Tarkin. However, the latest glimpse at the film will be sure to turn a few heads hoping to see more official movie merchandise.

As reported by EW, the main cast costumes from the new film have been recently unveiled and put on display at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, where many Star Wars fans have already taken to Twitter to post pictures of the display cases for all the world to see. Again, there is little to go on in regards to utility of purpose or individual design that would suggest any distinctive character features of the protagonists who will ultimately don these costumes on film, but the fact that they can now be scrutinized in further detail is certainly something to get excited about.

See the string of Twitter photos of the Rogue One main cast costumes, below:

A host of photos from the Rogue One set have already made their way online, and as such fans of director Gareth Edwards’ upcoming film have likely already formed their own opinions regarding where Rogue One may yet take the seminal science-fiction franchise. This latest reveal of the costumes that will outfit the main cast of characters should provide further fodder for eager viewers to ponder leading up to the film’s final release in theaters towards the end of this year.

Until the first trailer for Rogue One becomes officially available online, Star Wars aficionados will just have to wait for further word from the set of Edwards’ movie – however long that may take. Until then, Jedi Knights the world over can continue to bask in the afterglow of The Force Awakens, and sleep well knowing that the force has indeed been awoken in the hearts and minds of moviegoers everywhere.

Rogue One May Include a Young Han Solo Cameo

Star Wars: Episode 7 – The Force Awakens is now in theaters, and will be followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16th, 2016, Star Wars: Episode 8 on December 15th, 2017, and the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25th, 2018. Star Wars: Episode 9 is expected to reach theaters in 2019, followed by the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.

Not sure how I feel about the upcoming Anthology Star Wars movies. The prospect of seeing Disney flesh out their new canon is exciting, but every additional movie outside the new trilogy dilutes the brand. The reason that the originals stand as classics is because, quite simply, there were only three of them. A canon was established firmly enough to pique the interest, but the content saturation was kept at a level where fans still had room to imagine the untouched spaces between and around the canon. Rogue One will probably make back its budget with plenty left over, but other than that its just a brief distraction while fans wait for Episode VIII.
