Okay let me correct what I said above because I got my movies confused. I thought The Rise of Skywalker was a little underwhelming considering it was ending a trilogy. I didn't think The Last Jedi was bad but again I don't follow the history of SW deeply. I am more of a Trekkie but even hardcore Trekkies like SW fanatics are hard to please.

The common thread with both franchises is Abrams. I think he absolutely messed up the revitalization of Trek. Trek Beyond was actually pretty good which he just produced, not direct like he did the previous two movies.

On the Star Trek angle. I won't consider myself a Trekkie but I liked the original tv show a lot. What I have sporadically seen of TNG, it was way to dry. The "original" movies to me weren't that bad, I liked most of them. What I liked about the last 3 Trek movies though was the cast and the energy. In other words I think they put together a strong cast to kind of echo the original characters and the energy among them lead to exciting movies without feeling Star Wars like.
