One of the first Lord Commander's of the Night's Watch was a Stark who declared himself King and married an Ice Woman.--who was that woman? I've never understood that.

So the 13th LC of the NW (who was probably a Stark or a Stark bastard... maybe one named Jon???) was on watch from the top of the Wall when he spied a woman with haunting blue eyes. Instantly in love with her, he ran down and pursued her into the woods, and according to legend "when he gave her his seed, he gave her his soul." Whether this "woman" was a white walker or a sort of hybrid is unknown, but it took the combined might of the King in the North and the King Beyond the Wall to bring him down. So you know he was a bad hombre if the Wildlings and the Northmen put aside their differences to fight him off.
