In theory a pair of MN schools in the Summit would secure a geographic core in the upper Midwest and potentially make hockey that other conference sport that the league needs. Playing games in Minnesota could be good for the Dakota schools in terms of exposure to potential students in a more populous neighboring state. Plus there is a long history there with the Dakota 4 and those schools.
