RE: Are WAC and Big Sky merge/split talks going on again?

This, at best, is Spear trying to deflect from the embarrassment that is Idaho "moving down" to the BSC and diverting attention away from the cratering interest and donations that the decision has/is resulting in.
As far as the actual merger/split goes, it obviously won't happen multiple reasons but here is my take:
1) At best an FCS only conference is formed, but if that puts BSC full membership in questions then I don’t see any takers because…
2) Only Sac State (MSoc & Baseball) and UNC (baseball) have anything close to the right sports mix for the WAC. Therefore, the WAC won't get any help from a membership standpoint unless the departing BSC schools add sports...and that ain't happening without a drop of FB...in which case they would probably get booted from the BSC anyways.
3) No one is going to leave for the WAC that is back in crisis mode after the Bako departure...especially not Sac State, we are already in a conference without in-state rivals.
4) If Sac did leave, Oly sports are going to the now bloated BW. Sorry JD, the UCSD add means the powers that be don't give a rats ass about RPI, and the Bako add means sponsoring core BW sports (Sac checks that box), academics (Sac checks that box) and facilities (Sac doesn't check that box, at least in hoops) don't matter. All that matters is being in the UC or CSU club and we obviously check that box.
Yup...
