Tulsa - 10 years prior (4 NCAAs), Tubby 2 in 4 years
Georgia - went to Final 4 in 1983 + 4 more NCAAs, Tubby 2 in 2 years including a loss to 14 seed Chattanooga
Kentucky - rode Pitino's coat tails
Minnesota - Final 4 in 1997 + 2 more NCAAs, Tubby 3 in 6 years (1 win)
Texas Tech - Bobby Knight made 4 tournaments in 8 years including a sweet 16 in the 10 years before Tubby, Tub got beat in his 1 tournament in 3 years there.
Memphis- the 10 years before he showed up, we made 7 NCAAs with a record of 13-7 (includes 2 elite 8s, 1 runner up, and 2 second rounds under Pastner - the guy w/ more tournament wins than TS the last decade)

Not one place he's been would he be considered the most successful coach in school history. Not even at lowly Tulsa.

Washed. Up. Has. Been.

I was unaware they didn't teach simple math at Memphis

10 years before Tubby:

Tulsa: 5 NCAA appearences 0 wins, last NCAA before Tubby 4 years

Georgia: 3 NCAA appearences 0 wins, last NCAA before Tubby 4 years

Kentucky: 7 NCAA appearences including an NCAA violation year, 19 wins.

Minnesota: 3 NCAA appearences including an NCAA violation year, 4 wins all in violation year, upset other 2 appearences, last NCAA appearences before Tubby 2 years

Texas Tech: 3 NCAA appearences, 3 wins, last NCAA appearence before Tubby 6 years

Tubby's tenure at each school:

Tulsa: 4 years 2 NCAA appearences, 4 wins

Georgia: 2 years 2 NCAA appearences, 2 wins

Kentucky: 10 years, 10 NCAA appearences, 22 wins, no violations

Minnesota: 6 years, 3 appearences, 2 wins, no violations

Texas Tech: 3 years, 1 appearence, 0 wins

Tubby took every team to the NCAA by his third year. He took Georgia and Kentucky his first year.

Combined Tubby has taken a team to the NCAA 19 of 26 years. Two of the seven times he has missed were his first years as a head coach. Two times were at Texas Tech who had won 13, 8, and 11 games the previous three seasons.

It's always hard to argue with an ignorant person who has already made up their mind.

Tubby is a great coach. He builds programs the right way, which some do not like in a society that favors "winning now."

One knock on Tubby has always been his recruiting. He tends to not go after one-and-done's and does not generally run off kids who don't live up to their high school potential.

What he does do is win (everywhere he has gone) and does so without cheating.

I'd take Tubby back in a heart beat.

I’m sure Tulsa would. But Memphis (and Uconn & Temple) has to get the ship righted so that ECU can be the conference bottom dweller of a top 3 conference.
