It didn't seem like too long ago when Hinsdale, Illinois tight end Trey Koziol was talking about Northwestern being the team to beat for his services. What a difference a summer can make.

Trey Koziol, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound, tight-end, from Hinsdale (Ill) Central is a top 10 recruit in the Land of Lincoln. Koziol just returned from the Stanford Nike Camp this past weekend and he had some exciting news.

"I had a great time at the (Nike) camp." Koziol said. "I hooked up with (Wheaton North quarterback) Zach Ulrich and we both stayed an extra day for the Stanford junior day.

"Since we last spoke, I've been offered by Michigan State, Toledo and Northern Illinois. Northwestern (offer) is still the team to beat.

"Michigan State (Danny Crossman) came to our school and told our coach that he couldn't believe how big I was and he offered me a scholarship at the school.

"I'm going to visit Michigan State this summer. Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Penn State, Virginia, Toledo and a bunch of Ivy League schools have all called.

"Like I said before, Northwestern is the team to beat. Michigan State is right up there now. Oregon, Penn State and Michigan are my other favorites."

Koziol will be a two-year varsity starter. Look for Koziol to go both way for the Red Devils in 2002 as he'll line up as an outside backer on defense.

August 9, 2002 - theInsiders.com confirms commitment

Hinsdale (Ill.) Central standout tight end Trey Koziol's offer sheet was up to 10. However, the talented tight end made a commitment to Boston College. "I had offers from Boston College, Northwestern, Illinois, Michigan State, Indiana, Akron, Toledo, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, and Eastern Michigan," he said.

"I've committed to Boston College." Kozoil attended one-day camps at Penn State and Michigan this summer. After checking in at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds, he ran a 4.90 electronic 40-time. Penn State never came through.

"I was looking strongly at Penn State for awhile, but they hadn't offered. When I asked them recently they said they're waiting till October and that didn't go too well with me, so I went ahead and committed to Boston College."

The talented tight end talked about the Eagles. "I took an unofficial visit there this week and really enjoyed the entire thing. I love it there. I loved the coaches, the players, the school, and everything.

They have a pretty good incoming freshmen class and they were all there this summer doing informal workouts and I was real impressed with that. I'll probably take my visit there after the season."

Koziol said he's now going to recruit for the Eagles. "There are a few players in this area they want and I'm going to maybe help convince them to join me because it's a great place."
