Sophomore guard Bernard Robinson Jr., Michigan's second-leading scorer last season, has been charged with misdemeanor sexual assault, police said.
A warrant for Robinson's arrest has been authorized by the Washtenaw County prosecutor, Diane Brown, a spokeswoman for Dept. of Public Safety at the University of Michigan, said Wednesday.
Officials are making arrangements with Robinson's lawyer so he can turn himself in for arraignment. Brown said she does not know when that will happen, as Robinson is out of town.
Robinson, of Washington D.C., is accused of fondling another student in a residence hall stairwell on April 20. A warrant charging him with three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct was authorized April 25.
The female student called campus police and reported that Robinson grabbed her inappropriately several times, according to police reports. The woman, who said she didn't know Robinson, broke free and called for help, police said.
Robinson was arrested later that morning and was released pending formal charges. If he's convicted of the charges, Robinson could face up to two years in prison and a $500 fine for each count.
Robinson's attorney, Nicholas Roumel, said his client denies the allegations.
In 2000, Robinson was arrested in Taylor along with two other basketball players. He pleaded guilty to charges of being a minor in possession of alcohol and completed 12 months of probation.
"We take this matter very seriously and will look into it completely," Wolverines coach Tommy Amaker said in a statement. "We will continue to monitor the situation as it proceeds through the proper legal channels."
Robinson averaged 12.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists last season for Michigan, which finished with an 11-18 record.
