per ESPN.com...

Kelly Baraka, who sat out his freshman season with Michigan after being arrested for marijuana possession, was dismissed from the football team for undisclosed reasons.

Baraka, considered one of the nation's best high school football players, never played a down for the Wolverines after being arrested in May and July. He spent four days in jail in August after pleading guilty to the charges.

He was expected to have a major role with the team this season.

"It is with great disappointment that I have dismissed Kelly Baraka from the Michigan football team," coach Lloyd Carr said in a statement released Wednesday.

Carr kept Baraka on scholarship last year and allowed him to practice with the team in December before the Citrus Bowl. Baraka was not in uniform for the bowl game.

Baraka played in Michigan's spring scrimmage on April 13, rushing for 14 yards on six carries.
