Um DumbA$$:
If Memphis is so bad, then why are there so many of your F--cking brothern living here? Why don't they move back to Yazoo City. Now that is a great town with an NBA franchise and many Fortune 500 companies.

missjtiger, yes a beautifull young lady got murdered, something that very rarely happens here, but it did and it's very sad.I wish everyone would just talk about football, you're trying to compare Oxford's murder rate to that of Memphis and that is pure stupidity.I watch the TV News and read the C.A. everyday and someone is murdered almost everyday in Memphis, its stupid and sad what's happening to this world. As for the game Sept. 4th,I can't wait,it will be a game to remember. This reminds me of the old days, when Memphis and Ole Miss always opened the season, throw everything in the pass out the window, this is a new year and it begins today.I promise you,no true and blue Rebel fan is taking Memphis as a sure win,we remember last year and we know what can happen.Good luck(after Sept. 4th)

no thomas I'm not trying to "compare" anything. There's really nothing to compare. Oxfart and Memphis are two completely different cities and that does include the crime rate. As has been pointed out many many times, EVERY big city has high crime as we all know. My Dad lives in Oxford right now (at the Veteran's Home) and loves it. I find Oxford to be boring.....to do most anything cultural you have to go to either Jackson or Memphis. I'm sure there are plenty of folks that love it and that's great. Oh, and I can't wait till Sept. 4 either :D

Mr. UM_REBEL,
You are absolutely right...there is much violent crime in Memphis.
As a matter of fact, two Univ of Miss players were arrested this weekend for a bar fight and carrying pistols. Unconfirmed reporting has it that they pointed their weapons in the direction of MPD officers and did not comply with verbal commands to drop their weapons. More unconfirmed reports have one of them being sprayed with pepper spray.
I would say that makes our city very dangerous when U of MISS players come here and do such things.
Sounds like if U of MISS players are carrying guns and pointing them at people...YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOCK YOUR DOORS IN OXFORD TOO.
D.

It was a shame to hear about the young lady and I'm sure it is a rare thing in Oxford.
At the same time, someone from a small town (i don't know who it was) making fun of crimes in Memphis isn't the greatest thing either. Of course a big city is more likely to have crime than a small town...we have more going on here and more people are here...this isn't a knock on smaller places, but simply the truth. Also, it's good to keep in mind that there are a number of crimes here that are commited by people who are visiting (the mississippi football players come to mind).
When all is said and done, every place has it's ups and downs. I've never had trouble living here and crime takes place everywhere these days. I don't pretend Memphis is the safest place, but some people are totally fooling themselves if they think it isn't tons worse somewhere else. If you don't want to visit or live here then don't, but enough of this "Memphis is a ghetto" crap. We have good to go with the bad...and no matter how peaceful mayberry may seem, it's has it's share of downs too. Just a matter of personal preference.

I pretty much agree. Oxford may be a nice enough place, but didn't they just get a Walmart a year or two ago? And I hear many folks looking for a good time come up to memphis anyway.
I've been there a few times, and other than hanging out with my friend, it was pretty boring to me. Some parts of town are pretty, but not enough for me to be amazed by.
But everyone has their preferences so i can't knock it too much for those who like it.

It's amazing how after 1 win the Memphis fans act like they "own" Ole Miss. If you beat us for the next 42 years straight, the series will be tied. Go ahead and run your mouths now, because it will be a depressing day for you sorry *&^*s on the way home from Oxford.
I don't know though, I guess I would be proud of beating mighty "North Texas" in a bowl game. After being pathetic for the last 50 years, you guys deserved it. You wouldn't win 2 games a year in the SEC. Hell, you don't usually win many more than that in CUSA.
And by the way, don't ever make the mistake of thinking the murder capital of Memphis even compares to Oxford. Take a class on reading and when you learn how, look at the features that have Oxford one the best places in the nation to live and raise a family. You want to know who was at the bottom? Look out your window.

You accuse other people of not reading and then you have the nerve to exagerate the problems of Tiger football. 50 years? Come on. Very few people claim to 'own' Mississippi in football, but we know we have the talent to beat you guys and we also know that Mississippi isn't the 'end all be all' of football that you guys claim that it is. So yeah, we were happy to beat North Texas---many of us were happy to just be in New Orleans...so what? That bowl game meant much more than just some win over an ok team...but some people from Mississippi are too busy counting their many imaginary national championship rings to understand what it is like to just be happy to be playing the game of football. I think some of you are much happier pretending to be football Gods than Memphis is about being on their way to playing great football. Your comments were meant to belittle Memphis fans, but the truth is, they just make you look ignorant of the talent and potential that Memphis has. Beating you guys last year was nice, but it was just the first step of many. Rather than living in the past, you and yours better start looking ahead to the future and recognize that we aren't in Kansas anymore. We may or may not beat you guys this year, but no matter what happens, Memphis is no longer an easy win for anyone so you can take your assuming attitude and shove it.
And now Memphis is the murder capitol? I'm sure it would seem that way to someone who doesn't know better. I'm sure Oxford is a fine place to raise kids, but where exactly do you think these kids go for fun when they are old enough to get away? Memphis has Graceland, Autozone Park, The Fedex Forum, Beale Street, The National Civil Rights Museum, the Peabody Place Mall and Theater, Stax Museum, Sun Studios, Mud Island, Rock and Soul Museum, The River Walk, more than ONE Walmart, Targets, KMarts, Malls, bowling alleys, restaurants, and so on and so forth. Oxford has it's history and nice places, and so does Memphis, but you are absolutely right, Oxford should have never been compared to Memphis...There is no comparison. People like you get their kicks by reading how great their town is on some list while many other people from your town get their kicks by travelling to Memphis.
