Willie's gonna make the squad... if he can keep from fumbling the opportunity away.
Just kidding -- it's great to see him succeeding with the Steelers. I guess Duce will be the man there, but maybe Willie can slide into that #2 spot sometime in the near future.

Actually the steelers are stacked at RB, word is he may not even make the roster. He will either get cut or be stuck on the practice squad. I hope he makes it however, and he's done nothing but help himself this preseason.

Do they still have the Bus there? If so, I think it would be in their best interests to go ahead and cut loose those ties and go with someone younger like Willie. But, nobody asked me....

I really don't see that happening, Jerome will most likely retire either this year or next. He's still a good running back and only needs about 500 yards to move into 5th place all time in rushing yards.

I never thought I'd see the Cowboys cut ties with Emmitt while he still had something left in the tank, either, but they basically just showed him the door.
I guess the Steelers don't have to worry so much because Bettis probably isn't requesting a huge salary to hang around Pittsburgh (whereas Emmitt probably was). But, I still think it would be wise to keep Willie around and see what kind of potential he has. Even if he gets cut and sent to the practice squad, maybe he can work his way back up like Curry did in Oakland.

That's great to hear. Congratulations Willie! (I'm sure he'll be here soon to read that.)

Apparently he is tearing up UNC with some of his comments too.
Quote:Against the advice of his high school coach, Bob Lewis, Parker signed to play at North Carolina. Earlier this summer, he called that decision "the worst mistake of my whole life."
Quote:"That's what I don't understand. That's what bothered me. They would say I ain't running the holes and stuff," Parker said of the criticism he received in college. "I ain't going to say what I want to say about that."

Willie's problems at UNC were clear:
1) He fumbled every crucial posession he got the ball (or so it seemed)
2) He shied away from running between the tackles
The fumblitis hit again tonight, as he coughed the ball up inside the 10 while the Steelers were driving to win against the Panthers with under a minute left. I hate to see him do it -- except tonight, when pulling for the Panthers took precedence over pulling for a former Heel -- but it's something he's got to cure before he can get too upset with anyone but himself. Here's hoping he puts it behind him....

I knew he had fumblitis, but I didn't know there was so much acrimony. I wonder why his coach tried to dissuade him from UNC?
