I read in the paper, that Carolina has turned itself in to the
NCAA for a "minor" recruiting violation.

An Assistant Coach made illegal contact with a recruit.

Anything gonna come of that?

btw...same thing happened at UK last year. The youngster
was not allowed by the NCAA to sign with UK. Nothing
else happened though.

This is how much will happen with that:

I think I heard that thousands of minor violations are turned in to the NCAA every year. Just think of all the ones that aren't turned in....

Here's the story:

CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina will report a secondary recruiting violation to the NCAA after an assistant coach spoke to a high school player this month.

Matt Doherty, coach of the No. 22 Tar Heels, said his staff would be careful not to repeat the mistake, one that is not likely to result in a serious penalty.

Assistant Fred Quartlebaum spoke briefly to Justin Bohlander of Winston-Salem Reynolds after the recruit's Dec. 14 game. The conversation came during a period in which contact with players is not allowed. North Carolina is trying to land Bohlander as a walk-on.

Quartlebaum went toward the locker room after the game to talk to Reynolds coach Howard West, and Bohlander approached him. Bohlander then walked away while West and Quartlebaum talked for about 10 more minutes, West said.

"I understand the rule, but I think if those violations were turned in everywhere throughout the country, the NCAA would change the rules because that's all they would have to handle," Doherty told the Durham Herald-Sun.

This doesn't have anything to do with Carolina, but wanted to let ya'll know that Miami has gotten themselves in trouble in Baseball recruiting. Seems that the baseball camp they were holding was for recruiting players and they will be losing 2 scholarships. If I find out anything else, I'll post it...

This was just a minor violation. It isn't as big as people make it out to be.
