I'm not sure how to evaluate my purchase of this. On the one hand their original hook that got me was here powerful vocals (almost operatic) against some pretty good rock music but this cd seems to have taken out the rock guitar element and replaced it with orchestra and just her vocals. Its not bad, and lends itself to its own sound but it doesn't sound at all like old Evanescence.
Both in their remastered line of re-releases. I gotta say, they both sound very cleaned up and tightened up and crisper than my originals. The $6 barrier to entry was low enough to double dip. The bass is a lot more pronounced than the earlier versions and highs are a bit sharper. I liked them in but I can't say they are mind blowingly better to give up on your original copies.
*Defenders of the Faith, Sin After Sin, Painkiller, and Ram It Down so far....
As to getting a lot of Judas Priest back catalog to fill in some gaps I have had for a long time... man... theses guys rocked. I am glad to have songs I like not on my 2cd hits disc I already had. Killer guitars and good bass grooves. Halford's vocals are undeniable as a unique sounding front man. They also have some of the best album covers in the business LOL.
Listened to the whole thing, and I don't get the hate it got. Not his best work overall but a solid entry into the catalog. Lots of interesting rock samples throughout the cd. Very few trash songs and a lot of politics. I personally think he's best when in dis mode or genuinely pissed off.
