Why do we have a democracy?

Theoretical question. Wouldn't it be better if we didn't run the chance of the other party taking over? Why not have one party rule?

We dont' look for one party rule because being a free society means choices.

But why should we have those choices? Why should we have the option of electing candidates who will condone the murder of babies?

I'm not sure where you're attempting to go with this since given your political views you don't believe it is a baby. However, I'll bite.

In an ideal world we wouldn't have that option because everyone would respect the life of an unborn child. That's clearly not the case. People are imperfect and so is government because it's made up of imperfect people. But in the end having the freedom to elect leaders and living in this country is far better than any other system of government on the planet.
