I will stick up for Vandy on this front. They are getting better and they have a very good coach. He has gotten that team together and they will improve with Cutler at QB. Have you seen their RB? He ripped through us and almost beat other teams...I would take Vandy over Toledo in a heartbeat...
Uh oh!! A good coach - look out!!!!

WHO CARES?? Toledo has a GREAT coach. So?

The records and scores speak for themselves.
Yes, Vandy has a good coach. They have some young players that need experience. There line is coming back (not all of it) while they have a very decent QB, great RB, and a slew of new WR's. I would take Vandy in a heartbeat. If you dont agree with me, fine, but I really don't care..lol

I put money on Toledo last season against BC and boy did that pay off...

That was a dumb move! BC beat Notre Dame last year!

BC was a little bit better than Vanderbilt, don't you think?

So what...ND was grossly over-rated. Toledo is a solid team but they wouldn't beat Vanderbilt NEXT YEAR.

Yes they would! We really won't get to see either, because Vanderbilt will be sitting at home during bowl season while Toledo makes a 3rd straight trip to the Motor City Bowl. 03-wink

So what? Vandy plays an SEC schedule while Toledo plays North Dakota Community Colleges....

Vandy is still a doormat every year. Toledo would tear them up, I have no doubts about that. Toledo played a bad game against BC and they got rattled. Don't let the conference affiliation fool ya.

Toledo could take Vandys place this year and come out with a better record. Of course, that's just my opinion and it really doesn't mean squat.

Guys, listen up. Yes, Vandy is certainly the doormat, but they are the doormat of the most powerful conference in the country, bar none. You don't see these guys week in and week out like we do. This may sound like a silly thing to throw into this argument, but they actually play ALL the SEC teams extremely tough, taking them all the way to late in the fourth before they usually lose. They just can't seem to get over the hump and win some big games. Noone likes to play Vandy in the SEC for that reason, because they always scare the hell out of them. And occasionally they even beat a few SEC teams.

Bottom line is SLink is right. Vandy plays some of the best teams in the country every year...Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and even powers from the West side too....Auburn, Alabama, etc....the list goes on. No, they don't usually win but see my above paragraph for validity. Who does Toledo play again?

Just like HFFL, this is just my opinion, though, and it means nothing as well. But, I would take Vandy in a heartbeat over Toledo should they ever play.

Put Toledo in a major conference and they would get better and be at least middle of the pack within a few years. You obviously can't say that for Vanderbilt.

As for those close games against SEC teams, here's some scores that make me wonder:

2002
Georgia Tech 45
Vanderbilt 3
I know this one isn't a SEC game, but you did say that the SEC is the best conference.

Auburn 31
Vanderbilt 6

Georgia 48
Vanderbilt 17

Alabama 30
Vanderbilt 8

Kentucky 41
Vanderbilt 21

Tennessee 24
Vanderbilt 0

2001
South Carolina 46
Vanderbilt 14

Florida 71
Vanderbilt 13
Very close game!!!

Kentucky 56
Vanderbilt 30

Tennessee 38
Vanderbilt 0

SEC teams beat Vanderbilt by an average of 16.1 points per game in 2002. In 2001 it was 20.8 points per game. In 2000 it was 13.1 points per game. In that 3 year span Vanderbilt was 1-23 in the SEC. Only win was a 24-20 victory over Kentucky in 2000. They currently have a 17 game losing streak against SEC teams. In fact, they are just 5-59 since 1995 (last 8 seasons) in the SEC. Don't tell me Toledo would be just as bad!

When was the last time Vanderbilt had a winning record? 1982, they went 8-4 overall, losing to Air Force in the Hall of Fame Bowl. They were 4-2 against teams from the SEC that season!

What is Vanderbilt even doing in the SEC? They should be in the Sun Belt conference. After all, they are 0-2 against teams from the Sun Belt since that conference formed for football.

2001
Middle Tennessee State 37
Vanderbilt 28

2002
Middle Tennessee State 21
Vanderbilt 20

North Dakota Community Colleges???

Let's see. In 1999 Vanderbilt played Northern Illinois. Vandy won by 3 points. We beat Northern Illinois by 30 points that same year. In 1997 Vandy played and beat Northern Illinois by 7 points. We beat Northern Illinois by 27 points that same year.

In 2000 Miami OH (MAC team) beat Vanderbilt 33-30. We did not play Miami but we were 10-1, including a 42 point victory over a team that beat Miami by 20 points. We were at least as good as Miami that year.

You can say what you want but there are just so many things I can find that shows that Toledo is just as good as Vanderbilt, and probably even better on a consistent basis.

I agree that the SEC is the best football conference. However, you are crazy if you think that the worst teams in the SEC can beat the best teams in the MAC.

However, your friends from UNC have played MAC teams in the last few years and here are the results of each of those games:

1998
Miami OH 13
N. Carolina 10

2000
N. Carolina 20
Marshall 15

2002
Miami OH 27
N. Carolina 21

That's a 1-2 record against MAC teams since '98. Now I know you will come back with some crap about them not being any good.......
Dude, I pull for the Mac verses unc any time. in case you haven't heard-there is some small rivalry thing going on between us. Why did yall let Marshall slip up and get beat by them?

GO TO HELL CAROLINA
GO TO HELL, and take UK with you!

That's funny, because in the MAC a win for a school from our conference is a win for a school from our conference. Bowling Green and Marshall are Toledo's biggest rivals. In fact, the UT-BG rivalry is huge. We still hope they win OOC games.

Sorry Akron, I still disagree. Cutler is still a very solid QB, RB is very good, and their team is improving. I doubt Toledo could beat them. The Vandy team of 3-4-5 years ago were complete jokes with their old coach. I won't use that against them. But we won't settle this argument until Toledo actually plays them..

And for my quote, yes, I still believe that.
