That's a ridiculous move IMHO. Steve Logan has done nothing but win at ECU until this year. I guess a coach at a mid-major program like that (or basically any other program for that matter) isn't allowed one down year anymore. I doubt they will get a coach even in the same neighborhood as Steve Logan...and look for Logan to land with some other team.
Quote:per ESPN.com (http://espn.go.com/ncf/news/2002/1207/1473198.html)
East Carolina coach Steve Logan won't be back next season after going 4-8 in his 11th year. Logan had more wins than any other coach in school history. His teams were 69-58 and went to five bowl games, winning two, but the Pirates won just four of their last 15 games.
"There's always a lot of factors that go into any decision,'' athletics director Mike Hamrick said Saturday. "The only thing I can say is we reached a mutual agreement that he would resign.''
The announcement came a day after the Pirates were beaten at home by Cincinnati 42- 26. ECU finished tied for fifth in Conference USA at 4-4, its worst finish in six years of league play.
After Friday night's loss, Logan said he couldn't control his fate, but that the school would have to write "an awful big check'' to dismiss him.

Word is this had a lot to do with disagreements between Logan and Hamrick. Also, there were apparently some prominent boosters (aren't there always?) who didn't like Logan's style.
I agree, though -- Logan took ECU to a place it had never been before. They will be lucky to find someone who can keep them there... much less take them any higher.

Apparently there was friction between Logan and former ECU assistants Connors, Fleming, and Webster (who are all part of UNC's staff right now). If that's true, it's highly unlikely that it would happen -- although I admit that it would be great to have him as an OC.

Not that this has anything to do with this thread, but have there been any rumors about UNC getting rid of/demoting Dave Huxtable as DC? Even though he's a first year DC up there (he was our DC for a while and did a nice job), I wouldn't doubt it considering how Carolina played defense this year.

I agree that that is the wrong move to make. It does seem that there had to be something behind the scenes to get rid of a coach like that. btw, they did have some success before Logan. Bill Lewis took them to the Peach Bowl in 1991 and we snatched him up. I think we all know how that turned out. :bang:
