9/11 was one of those times that you remember where you were when you first heard the news. That's was this thread is all about.

Where were you last September 11th when you first heard of the attacks?

I was at work. I work for an airline and I made it to the tv in time to see the second plane hit live, on the air, unfortunately. Everyone was kind of dumbfounded, and when they hit the Pentagon, it was holy chaos.
I remember I was at work from 5:00am that Tuesday morning 9/11 and didn't get to go home until Wednesday at 12:00noon, for security purposes. I had to police all of our airplanes overnight that President Bush had grounded that day. It was, literally, the most stressful day of my life, but my day still doesn't compare to those that were actually there and those that lost family and friends in those cowardly attacks.

I wasn't around to say I remember where Kennedy was shot, but I know I will never forget that day. I remember every second of that day like it was in slow-motion and I play that day back in my head occasionally, whether I want to or not.

WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER!!!

I had just finished taping my last traffic report here in the studio at work...we have a TV here in the studio and it was turned to ABC...Good Morning America was on but the volume was turned down...The hosts of GMA were joking around and having a good time when all of the sudden the 1st pictures were broadcast live just seconds after the first plane hit....no one knew yet what had happened...my first thought was "Damn, that is one heck of a fire in that building"...I called everyone else into my part of the studio and we watched in horror as the second plane hit...we were speechless...I stayed around a little longer at work and watched the images unfold on tv...I then left work and headed towards the police department in the town I live in just south of Raleigh...my roommate and several of my friends are police officers and I wanted to see how they were doing...Me, my roommate and a couple other cops were in a daze just trying to sort everything out...no calls came over the local police radio for a few hours as everyone was somewhere watching tv....

I was in 3rd period, in Algebra II, right at the end when they informed us over the PA system. we had no TV so we had to go on kids telling all these different stories over their cell phones.

It doesn't seem that long ago.

I was walking out of my 9:30 Shakespeare class when I noticed a maintenance truck with a crowd around it and the radio up to full volume. The people walking up kept asking what was going on...and we eventually heard snippets of the story. After a while, I headed over to the stamp student union where everybody and their brother were gathered around the televisions. People were trying to call their loved ones from cell phones that weren't working--there was a report of a girl that was outside the union screaming because her father had been on the plane that hit the pentagon--and the lines to use the pay phones were ten-deep.

Damn... It's crazy to think how the thought of all this can still bring me to tears.

I was at school - and sick - and was leaving. Right before I left I caught word of it - and peeped into my Econ/Gov't Honors Teacher's room (it was his free period -- and he's a real cool guy). From there I remember getting home, and hearing that the 1st one collapsed. I went back out to run an errand I had put off... and there was nobody on the road.... and traffic around were I live is always hell. I didn't see one other car. Period. Right as I got back in the house -- the 2nd tower collapsed.

In fact - I have an mp3 of the live broadcast of Howard Stern on 9-11 if anybody wants it.

I was visiting my Dad at Shands Hospital at UF. We sat in his room and watched all day. My Mom called told my Dad that a page had been sent putting our local SWAT team on alert. We then were told that 3 Airlines had to devert flights to our airport. I am in this little city in N. FL It was really scarey and were were over a thousand miles away. NY and DC use to seem a million miles away, on Sept 11th it felt like you were there.

I rememeber being at work (a different job than I have now), all wrapped up in the concerns and stresses of the day. I had just walked back into the office from being out at the job site, and people in the office were talking about some explosion in New York. I thought they were blowing some little news item way out of proportion, something they were famous for doing anyway. Well, I walked into my office and 3 or 4 people were in there watching a TV that was set up for watching training tapes. At first, I was annoyed, because I was so stressed-out and busy, but when I realized what was happening, and saw the 2nd plane hit, I just dropped everything and watched for about 3 hrs. straight. Nothing else seemed very important anymore. I felt like I was in shock. Another thing I remember is how there was some new development every 2 or 3 minutes, it's like you just kept getting hit with more bad news. I also remember running an errand later that day and watching the sky for airplanes. The whole thing was so horrible and surreal, until the anger set in.

I'm one who can remember Kennedy's death vividly although I was just 4. He was/is a hero in our house.

A year ago I was working my former one day a week job in a friend's daycare. She called me from her errand running and said the radio was reporting some sort of explosion in NYC. I turned on the small black & white TV and had a very hard time maintaining a calm demeanor in front of the twelve 3 & 4 year olds. (I knew I couldn't cry til I got home that night because I didn't want to upset the little kids.)

Boy, Girl, Boy's Girlfriend & I were glued to the TV all night. I don't remember eating supper but I'm sure we did. I took a portable TV to work (Church secretary) the next day. Today, I shall not turn on the TV because I do not want to relive the horror and sadness of last year.

I was at work like many others in teh DC area and I erceived an IM from a friend saying that a plane had crashed into one of the Towers of the WTC I figured it was some little plane that some non-flying fool hit. I remember thinking what an idiot this person must be to have mistakingly hit such a large tower.

But as we all know things went drastically down hill from there. I gathered in the Call Center for the company I was working for at teh time and watched the CNN feed with about 150 co-workers until we were premitted to go home and then I sat there with my wife and kids and watched the entire thing continue to unfold.

Things got scarier for my wife as her father is like 3rd in charge of Counter terrorism and was whisked away to an unknown location of about a week. Even scarier was the thought that her Step mom worked at the pentagon. Luckily she transferred the week prior right out of the section that got hit by the plane.

I will certainly never forget those that died and those that took action on that Day..

My Prayers are forever with their families and loved ones..

A Salute to them from this Gulf War Vet.

I was in class, well waiting for class to start, at like 10 am (a little late I know), and I had decided not to listen to the radio that day on the way to school and I got to class and heard about it...then I was on campus all day just to find out I had NO CLASSES cause they cancelled one by one.

I was at school. I was hearing people saying around campus that something had happened but I didn't really know WHAT had happened. I went into the computer lab and there is was...plastered all over the Yahoo page that the Twin Towers were hit. That's how I found out about it. I couldn't even make my way to a television cause I had such a busy day. When I got home that day (about 4 o'clock), everything had happened already with the towers getting hit and then collapsing. All I was left with were the pictures and stories. One day I truly resented having to go to class.

I was in first block English class when two of my classmates returned from the library and told us they had seen another class watching the news, and that some "terrorist thing" had happened at the WTC. Most of us thought it was no biggie cuz we didn't know anything else. Then, in Alg 2 next block our teacher told us everything that had happened and people started worrying. Of course, we weren't allowed to divert from our normal schoolwork and watch the news, so I didn't learn everything until I got home. My acting and dance class was cancelled & my dad (who works for the DOL in DC) was lucky to catch a ride out of the place w/ a friend (as oppose to being stuck there as the trains weren't running on the proper schedule).

1st period, geometry - there were six people in class because the sophomores were taking their standardized tests (I was a freshman). We were joking and having a good ole' time (it was basically a free period) and studying for our bio test that was next period.

Bell rang and we headed to 2nd period. Found out for the first time then and saw the second tower being hit. We watched the TV the whole time that class period and in a lot of the other periods. I,too was glued to the TV that night, just in shock.

Today we watched the CNN 9/11 Tribute in history ..and I cried all over again.

I was up all night the night before studying for my first calc 3 test of the year. I had a test at 9AM therefore when the plane first hit the first tower I was on my way to class. I got out of the test, ran into a friend and went to the post office. There we saw on the TV, what looked like a fire on top of the WTC. There was no volume, so we couldn't hear anything, so we headed upstairs to the food court to get her a chicken biscuit from chick-fila. In the food court we caught a glimpse of another TV, still without volume so we headed back to the dorm. A guy selling jewelery in the student center said that there was a terrorist attack on the WTC, but didn't go into much detail. The second we walked through the door of our hall we saw everyone huddled around a friend's TV. That's when it was real. This was around 10:30...right before the first building collapsed. We watched all day at the horror continued. The worst part was that my roommate, who I hardly knew at the time, was from Manhattan. She had a math test right after me. I kept trying to get ahold of her to see she had heard and if her family was ok, but of course I couldn't get ahold of her. When she got home she tried all day to get ahold of them, but of course it was impossible to get through. Coming from a small town in Colorado to a big city like Atlanta also scared my family, so I was getting calls all day from them, making sure I was ok. I tried to go to my later class, but as I was walking people were telling us class was cancelled. It's weird cuz I remember every detail of that day like it was yesterday...every bit of it. I know I always will.

I was at work beginning a training class on our software and I heard from someone that a plane hit one of the towers. I tried to get online but nearly all the major news sites were bogged down that I couldn't get any news. Finally, I got up USAToday and I was able to see a pic of the tower that had been hit. Right after I saw the pic my girlfriend called to tell me that the 2nd tower got hit. Right then, just like everyone else I knew it was not an accident. We all left the room to find a radio and a TV in the office. During this time my girlfriend called back to tell me the Pentagon got hit. There was a TV in the boardroom and there were all 150 employees piled in there watching the news. I called all my family members as I have an uncle that lives 1 hr from where flight 93 crashed, and my dad and sister work for the Federal Government. Then I watched the towers fall...........just horrible.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all who lost someone.

Last September 11th I was on my way home from Philadelphia. I had visited my sister and went to the Toledo/Temple game in Philly. I drove past Somerset, PA about an hour or two before the attacks happened. We stopped at the post office before going home. My wife got back in the car and told me to turn on the radio because something was on CNN inside the post office. That is when I first learned of the attacks.

By the time we got home and turned on the TV the plane had crashed in Somerset.

I will never forget that morning. Even though I did not lose any friends or family, that day's happenings are still very clear in my mind.

I had taken a test the day before on 9/10. I thought I was going to enjoy what had been my first day off in forever by sleeping in. For some odd reason, I couldn't fall asleep the night before so I had turned on the radio and feel asleep with it on. I half woke up hearing some guy on the radio talk about a plane crash in NYC. He mentioned the WTC but I didn't make the connection. I thought some prop plane must have gone off course or something. I rolled over to go back to sleep. But something made me get up. I didn't have a TV in my room at the time. So I went to the living room of our apartment and turned on the TV about 30 seconds before the 2nd plane crashed into the WTC. As it happened, I screamed..waking up my two roommates. I'm not normally a crier, but immediately I was in tears. My 2 roommates and I sat in front of the TV all day. I remember being so horrified...and so hurt....and so scared of what would come next. I grew up (as many in my generation have) mostly thinking that nothing bad would ever happen in the United States. But it did. And, I suddenly realized that we weren't safe no matter where we were. I can't imagine a worse tragedy. And, I am very thankful for the men and women who reacted in such intelligent and heroic manners to protect as many of us as possible and to all of those who have served our country to provide liberty and freedom to the citizens of our great nation. Thank you very much. Our country will never be able to repay you.
