I've recently had to memorize a poem for my American Lit class, and was wondering if anybody else had any spare bits of poetry floating around their heads from an old class assignment.
Mine is "Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost:
Some say the world will end in fire
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire,
I hold with those that favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
Anybody else care to share??? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" />

The Juice by Seuss
I did not kill my lovely wife.
I did not slash her with a knife.
I did not bonk her on the head.
I did not know that she was dead.
I stayed at home that fateful night.
I took a limo, then took a flight.
The bag I had was just for me.
My bag! My bag! Hey, leave it be!
When I came home, I had a gash.
My hand was cut from broken glass.
I cut my hand on broken glass.
A broken glass did cause that gash.
My friend, he took me for a ride.
All through LA, from side to side.
From north to south, we took a ride.
But from the cops we could not hide.
My trial lasted for one year.
A year! A year! Just sitting here!
The DNA, the HEM, the HAW!
The circus-hype the viewers saw!
A year! A year! Just sitting here!
Did you do this awful crime?
Did you do this anytime?
I did not do this awful crime.
I could not, would not, anytime.
Did you take this person's life?
Did you do it with a knife?
I did not do it with a knife.
I did not, could not, kill my wife.
I did not do this awful crime.
I could not, would not, anytime.
Did you hit her from above.
Did you drop this bloody glove?
I did not hit her from above.
I cannot even wear that glove.
I did not do it with a knife.
I did not, could not, kill my wife.
I did not do this awful crime.
I could not, would not, anytime.
The glove you see it doesn't fit
The lawyer says you must acquit
Acquit because the cops all lied
Acquit, acquit the lawyer cried
The jury came back verdict in hand
and silence fell across the land
Not guilty, not guilty they did decree
Not guilty, not guilty, you must set him free
And now I am free, I can return
To my house for which I yearn.
And to my family whom I love.
Now would you please return my glove!!

Little Bird - author unknown
Little bird with a yellow bill
Perched upon my window sill.
I coached him in with a crumb of bread
Then I smashed his frigging head.

To think that I have never bit
A thing so lovely as a ***
A *** , whose taste is just as sweet
When properly addressed as 'teet'
Poetry is pure bull****
But only God can make a ***

Jack be nimble,
Jack be quick,
Jack jumped over
a candle stick.
Jack be nimble,
Jack be quick,
Now Jack has
a french-fried d**k.

The Present
I like taking a big dump
In a public restroom
A fresh one slithering out of my rump
In the middle of the afternoon
Floating in the bowl
Makes me feel so good
Awakens my soul
As if it could
Never do I flush
A present for the next patron
Knowing what awaits, gives me quite a rush
For I am a fair matron

I Love Tailgating Parties And It Shows
To me autumn is special for it means one thing
That football season is finally here
I do not care about the color of leaves changing
I only care about the game and the beer
We meet at the stadium Sunday morning at nine
With burgers, hot-dogs, kielbasa and beer
Wearing our team colors and feeling quite fine
We're on a mission that is absolutely clear
To get **** faced and cheer on our favorite team
Because we are serious when it comes to tailgating
Suddenly I notice as I let out a boisterous scream
That for some reason I am having trouble navigating
Shortly before one with the game about to begin
On my way to my seat I commence to regurgitate
Oh! No! Oh! No! I think it is happening again
I guess it must have been something that I ate
Ah! Yes! Autumn is a very special time of year
For me it means that football season is finally here
It means tailgating parties with plenty of cheer
And best of all it gives me a reason to get drunk on beer

The Long Road
Got some previously read novels
For the wiredrawn trip back east
And the hitch hikers methodical gazes
Don't bother me in the least
The ravaged streets and towns
Are quite the spectecal
While the local residents
Are really not that dull
I've lost my esprit
And the clouds have taken the sun
While I marvel at the scenery
And your best friend rides shotgun
Your capricious comments
Are forcing me off the road
Doing 85 in Tennessee
And I still can't break the code
-myself (I also write short stories.) <img border="0" alt="[Goldfish]" title="" src="graemlins/goldfish.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[goldie]" title="" src="graemlins/goldie.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Goldfish]" title="" src="graemlins/goldfish.gif" />

My beard grows to my toes
I never wear no clothes
I wraps my hair
around my bare
and down the road I goes.

What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.
~William Wordsworth
