I didn't use the usual Poll format because there are too many choices.

This is a two part question...

1) Other than your favorite team's fight song, what is your favorite? (So if you're a Clemson fan, don't say your favorite is "Tiger Rag")

2) Name your favorite marching band non-school song (like the Hey Song, Louie Louie, Hey Baby, etc)

Mine....

1) Gotta go with Arizona and Notre Dame

2) It's a toss-up between the "Budweiser Theme" played by the GT band and the "SportsCenter Theme" played by the Maryland Band.

Hmmmm ... I'll just name my favorites right off, regardless of allegiances:

1. Oklahoma, Maryland, Texas A&M, Wake Forest. Two ACC schools, two Big 12 schools. I think that's equitable.

2. I wish I could get a CD of the Maryland Basketball Pep Band. They seem to do quite a few 80s rock nuggets, cool ones (A-ha's "Take On Me") and lame ones (Europe's "Final Countdown"). They also sound really big. It makes me wish the networks wouldn't go to station breaks during timeouts because I don't get to hear this great band. Of course, I don't suppose because of licensing issues any of those numbers would actually be on a CD ...

Some segment -- I think its the OU Jazz Ensemble -- provides music for the Sooner basketball games ... they're pretty good too but they're a smaller group, and they don't have as big a repetoire. I do, however, have a CD of the Pride of Oklahoma (OU Marching Band) ... I would like to build my collection of university marching bands and definitely want to include Maryland's (and A&M's, and the Demon Deacs too).

I just know that i hate Virgina's fight song or at least i think its Virgina's fight song. It's slow quite and they put their arms around each other and sway back and forth, its pathetic. In now way can it get a team pumped up like a fight song should.

It isn't their fight song, but they play it after touchdowns and at the end of basketball games. It's goes to the tune of 'Auld Lang Syne' (the New Year's song).

I kinda like "Stand up and Cheer" - WVU's fight song.

I'm not real big on the Maryland band's sportscenter theme. They play it too much. When I was there in '95, we tried to play the ESPN College Football theme. It never really came out too well. Too bad, it's a cool theme. Personally, I thought it was in a weird key.

SoonerTerp - You can download some of the songs the Maryland band has played during the 1993-1996 football seasons at http://www.umd.edu/bands. I hear they lost the recording from the 97 season, and I don't know if they've ever recorded since then. But in listening to some of the shows they've performed in the past couple years, a lot of the music is recycled.

1) I'm sorry, there's just none I can think of other than Clemson's Tiger rag, it just kicks ass

2) Imperial Death March from Star Wars. Our band in high school played that and it always got me fired up.

Not trying to appear biased for the ACC, but the Ramblin' Wreck and the Tiger Rag both rule!
