This is a complete joke. It's an embarrassment that these rankings are actually thrown into the BCS mix.

Have a look...

Let me tell you how this poll is compiled:

"The Pollster fills his crack pipe one more time, takes a long drawn hit before he sits down to compose this week's Poll. Let's see he says, Notre Dame, yeah Lou Holtz has a good team, I'll make them #1". "After the coughing fit subsides, he says, this crack I got in Miami ranks in the top 10, I'll make them #6." Two 8 balls later, the poll is complete. He then emails the poll to his editor, who is deaf, dumb, blind, and brain dead (Beano Cook) who agrees that Lou Holtz has a great team at Notre Dame, that Ron Pollis will win two Heisman's and that the rest of the Poll really doesn't matter.

Obviously, strength of schedule is everything in the NY Times poll. That doesn't make the poll bad. It is what it is.

But that's why Miami (Florida) is low. Florida State aside, the Canes have played some pretty sad sack teams.

That's why Bowling Green is so low. In contrast, Jeff Sagarin's BCS version of his ratings has Bowling Green at about 23, which in my opinion is a lot closer to reality.

Eastern Michigan is ranked higher than 25 D I-A teams. They aren't even better than 25 D I-AA teams! <img border="0" alt="[laugh]" title="" src="graemlins/laughing.gif" />
