I just learned how to play Texas Hold'em. Great game I have to say. There's nothing like a good game of cards, especially these days. 'm spending time at Syracuse University for a summer program, so it makes dorm life even more fun. We've been playing with quarters, and I did well the first 2 days but have lost the last 2 days making me -$7. I usually play with like $3 or $4. Last night some cocky kid, without much experience, came in and thought he could win and jacked away $80, but unfortunately I wasn't there at that time to get a piece of it. I really love it though and am still learning the game. I won't go below $12 in losses though.

i really have to say, that this fad has gone unchecked. I myself don't play, because i don't gamble, but that's besides the point. it's just kinda funny how all of my friends have started playing.

I've played Texas Hold'em for at least 5 years. Nearly all the people jumping on the bandwagon are meat ... or "deadmoney" as we call 'em.

I'm not gonna lie -- it was my brother that got me interested in it. Well, actually it was Rounders... but, I didn't start playing until my brother got me interested a year or so ago. Then, I watched the W.S.O.P. last year and started watching the WPT regularly as well. I'll admit that I "jumped on the bandwagon," but I don't think that's such a bad thing. I'm not fanatical about it, but I do enjoy it as a good pastime.

I'm actually going up to Cincinnati this weekend to play in a poker tournament that my brother is hosting ($40 buy-in). This will be my first true "tournament," so I'm interested to see how well I do.

If you've got money to spend, and don't mind losing some (in my case, all of it), then its a fun way to pass the time. $-13. Urgh. :bang:

I can. I think ESPN does a pretty good job with it.

I like to watch the different characters of poker, and ESPN always plays them up. They also do stories on the players to help you identify with them -- not unlike what you'll see with the Olympics in August. But, unlike the Olympics, you don't find yourself falling asleep during the little vignettes before they take you back to the poker. It's just enough to give you a little background and then get you back to the action.

Now, if you don't enjoy poker at all , then you surely won't get anything out of it.

I watch, and I've played for a couple years. Started off as a way to win some money off our girlfriends, but soon they got pretty darn good too. There are quite a few tournaments in my area, but I'd rather play with people I know and share adult beverages.

Ive never played but on the subject of gambling....I went on a cruise over spring break and the boat had a casino, my buddy is a big time gambler he went like everynight and one night i decided I would actually play blackjack instead of watching one night, I won on a couple of hands but ended the night 40 bones in the hole. Needless to say I didnt go back.   That and I broke my foot like the next day so I couldnt really go back very easily. 03-nutkick

Very addicting game, I played it growing up (although not for money). I just started up recently also.

I can't play it unless its for money. Even if only for maximum of like 20 bucks, just as long as its something. And swoosh, I do watch the WS of poker on ESPN, its pretty good if you can follow the details and dream about getting 9th and winning thousands of dollars!

I can't believe that many do watch it, but as much as espn shows it, there must be a good number who do.

I finished fourth in the tournament I played in over the weekend. For a first-timer, I didn't think that was too bad!

I came in third in the impromptu tourney I played in this weekend. Considering I'd never played until the day before, I'd say I'm a pretty quick study (or just extremely lucky)!
