Look BPD, I'm the furthest thing from an anti-war protester. My dad & grandfather were in the Navy (dad Vietnam, grandfather Korea & Vietnam). I support the means to win a war. I don't celebrate deaths caused by war because too easily if things went the other way, those civilians under the bomb could be my family. This is my last comment on this subject.

By the way, when did LK or myself say that we were celebrating the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians? We are celebrating the act that brought an end to World War II. If you choose not to celebrate, fine. That is your right. But, don't try to rain on our parade if we do.

I am proud of both of my grandfathers. They were part of the greatest generation our country has ever known. Since they fought in that war, I feel entitled to celebrate whatever brought them home to my grandmothers.

Honestly, and I know this is cold, I don't even consider the deaths when I celebrate the end of this war. Collateral damage happens, especially in war.

This thread was intended as a celbration of how much of a badass this great country is. You mess with the bull, you get the goddamned horns.

Japan found that out the hard way, and I am proud of it.

BPD: What happened to your uncle was horrible, and you should be incensed by it (as am I). But I would also urge you to keep in mind that innocent people -- of many nationalities (American, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc.) -- suffered from that war and many wars throughout history.

The way I choose to commemorate this anniversary is to be grateful for the American lives that it saved and at the same time saddened by the Japanese lives that were lost.

I feel no mercy for the enemy. I only care about the number of American lives saved and the victory we achieved. The lives lost were necessary to achieve our goals.

This will open up a huge can of worms (and part of me is sorry to do this because of how off-topic it might go), but I have a question to ask of you, LK:

Any Vietnamese civilians that were mistreated through various means (including rape) by American soldiers... was that merely necessary to achieve our goal? Are their lives that less valuable than American civilians?

Raping those civilians was not necessary to achieve our goals. Those soldiers should have had to ride the nuke out of the plane on it's way down to Japan.

If I post my opinion, all you're gonna do is comeback with all the bull$hit you have been replying back to Lucy, p5, and JD. This whole thread is pointless. But go ahead...act like the big man that you think you are. I am blinded by your pure intellect. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="redface.gif" />

Tasha,

Serious question: If this thread is pointless, why respond to it?

A sports message board. This was posted in the SPORTS Bar? Okay...uh-huh. But yeah...I'm not gonna argue anymore. It's cool as far as I'm concerned.
