Video Editing Softwar
Anyone out there know of a good video editing software?

Also what tpye of camcorder to get or what do you recommend.

I have a newborn and want to get his video collection started early.

Any ideas would be helpful.

I love Final Cut Pro, but that may be a little overkill for what you need ;-)

I like mini dv as well

Shopping tips:

PAY FOR MORE OPTICAL ZOOM
DO NOT PAY FOR MORE DIGITAL ZOOM!!!
Pay for better lenses... i.e. Sony and Carl Zeis, Panasonic and ____, Cannon and ____. ___ b/c I can't remember what their better lenses are... but they make a huge difference in picture quality.
I like 3.5" screen on my camcorder but get > 2.5"

Personally I prefer Sony's. But read the labels not all models include remote, decent battery, ect. Plus some Sony models have a specially tinted LCd screen so it doesn't wash out in sunlight!!!

Thanks! I guess this type is the kind that plugs directly into your computer to download the video? or is there some sort of "tape" to tranfer the video... thanks in advance... Can you please let me know what the different type are? ie mini dv vs the others? thanks !!!!!

Mini DV (digital tape)
Mini DVD ( they use usb 2.0 transfer or rip off the dvd in your computer)
Digital 8 (Digital quality recorded on Hi8 tapes)
HDD aka Hard Drive camcorders

And if you got some money tuo burn you can get HD Mini DV.. I think entry level models start @ $1500

I like Mini DV... and you buy Mini DV tapes for them. they use FireWire/IEEE1394/i Link cable to hook up to your pc. ..make sure your PC has a firewire port!!!

Will this work on Windows? Or is this Mac only?
