Ike Reilly: http://www.myspace.com/ikereilly
One of my favorite bands. See them live if you get the chance. Clever song writer. Intersting voice. I love the first two records.

Dfactor: http://www.myspace.com/dfactor
Interesting song writer from New York. His former band was Anthemic Pop Wonder. He's also the guy that did 12 covers in 12 months project last year. You can find that link in his "about me" section.

Mary Epworth: http://www.myspace.com/maryepworth
Fabulous singer from the UK. Some of her stuff is a little glossy, but her voice rings through.

Sumahama: http://www.myspace.com/ilovesumahama
This is Mary Epworth's side project. This link has only one song, which may be the greatest cover song ever....and not just because it happens to be an Urge Overkill song. That's just an added bonus. Seriously, check this song out. It's absolutally beautiful. 84, it'll fit your shoegazer mood.

Alright, this was a great idea for a thread. I've enjoyed sampling a few bands I wasn't aware of yet. Please, let's hear some contributions from others.

My recomendations of the day, two from Bloodshot Records:

Deadstring Brothers: http://www.myspace.com/deadstringbrothers
They make no attempt to hide their Rolling Stones at their country best influence.

Bobby Bare Jr: http://www.myspace.com/bobbybarejr

Let me start this post by saying I am not a big fan of MySpace. With that being said, here are a few bands that I like that I haven't heard anyone here talk about from least to most well-known.....

The Hero Factor - Not signed, but I dig them.

The Daylights - Another unsigned band that I dig. Oops, I guess they got signed to Epic Records and they sound very, very different. I guess a lot changes in a year or so.

Blue Merle - Mandolin, Fiddle, Upright Bass, Keyboards....What's not to like?

Her Space Holiday - They have so much crap on their page that I could never get the songs to load, so good luck. Here is the band site in case you want to hear some music....http://www.herspaceholiday.com/main.html

Margot & The Nuclear So and So's - Although my favorite song of theirs isn't on the site.

Minibar - They are friends with Wilco. Doesn't that make them cool by Osmosis?

They've been mentioned on this site before, but I thought I'd throw their myspace up for anyone who hasn't heard them yet....or anyone who has heard them and know they rock.

I got directed to this while trying to stream this song from Pitchfork.

http://myspace.com/stars

A bunch of Arts and Crafts labelmates are going to redo the Stars "Set Yourself on Fire" The song "Sleep Tonight" is remixed by the Junior Boys. I can't wait to see who does "Your Ex-Lover is Dead," and "Celebration Guns."

Here's CSS

http://www.myspace.com/canseidesersexy

I dig the song Music is Hot hot sex, but it's on here. They're a whole lot of fun.

Heartless Bastards

http://www.myspace.com/heartlessbastards

This is a local band, who've stumbled upon some success. I've become quite a groupie, have seen them play 4 times in the past 2 years. Their new ablum "All this Time" is an outstanding album, while their first "Stairs and Elevators" is also quite excellent.

I'll add a couple more. These were the two bands that opened up for Margot & the Nuclear So & So's tonight. They were both pretty good and in the same vein as Margot. The smallest of the bands was Page France. They only had 6 members while Canada had 7 and Margot, 8. There was a lot of stuff going on.

Here's Canada's MySpace....Canada

It is hard to put their sound into context because they use two different lead singers and a vast array of instruments.

Here's Page France's MySpace....Page France

These guys are easier to label and I would call them a mixture of The Jayhawks (with less whine), David Gray (without the drum machines) and Willie Nelson.

popmatters gave the new album a great review today (they rarely give out 9s or 10s)

"Time may be a crooked bow, but Andrew Bird is shooting for timelessness."

I like Andrew Bird, but he gets boring after awhile. Fake Palindrones is an excellent song though.

I think this thread should pin this thread.

Someone please recommend some good guitar driven music. However, stay away from metal. Thanks.

In return I offer a couple options--
On the recommendation of a friend, Midlake- http://myspace.com/midlake
I like the song Roscoe
On the recommendation of another friend and the guys at Sound Oppinions during their review of SXSW, The Pipettes: http://www.myspace.com/thepipettes
Good stuff.
