Bronco fan here, obviously.
Here is my ranking of favorite WAC teams:
1 - Utah State Aggies
2 - Nevada Wolfpack
3 - Hawaii Warriors
4 - Fresno State Bulldawgs
5 - New Mexico State Aggies
6 - La Tech Bulldawgs
7 - San Jose State Spartans
8 - Idaho Vandals

I admit my rankings are based on how well I like the fans and how much beer I have drank with the fans of those schools, except for the Vandals....I have drank a lot of Beer with Vandal fans and they still finished last!!!!!!

1. Boise State
2. Hawaii (Ever since they scored 72 on a 10-0 BYU team I've been a huge fan.)

The rest are tied.

1. Nevada

They're old friends and pretty much the closest in proximity. We've had some great FB battles. It'll be great to have them in town again.

2. Boazy

They caught our old coach on the rebound back in the olden days. I've followed 'em ever since. Just hate that blue abomination, however.

3. NewMags

Who doesn't love an Aggie, especially an Aggie?

4. Fresno

Our all-time record is about even. Some great contests over the years. Hope we're at least in the same part of the field most of the time when we visit.

5. Hawai'i

We used to own 'em back in the olden days. Don't expect to now. Be satisfied if we can keep things respectable.

6. Idaho

Our oldest friend of the group. These guys and Montana both should have been part of the old Skyline conference. Don't know why they weren't. When Colorado left, Idaho and Montana were obvious partners.

7. San Jose

We've played 'em more than anybody else except, I think, Idaho, but we never really appreciated the Hosers in the past. Here's hoping that will change.

8. LaTech

Haven't known 'em long enough. We've only played twice in FB and never in BB. Thanks for Karl Malone, but that's not quite enough to create affection.

Hmmm. What does that remind me of? Oh yeah:

Quote:The Merry Minuet

They're rioting in Africa
They're starving in Spain
There's hurricanes in Florida
And Texas needs rain
the Whole world is festering iwht unhappy souls
The French hate the Germans, the Germans hate the Poles
Italians hate Yugoslavs, South Africans hate the Dutch
And I don't like Anybody very much.

But we can be tranquil and thankful and proud
For man's been endowed with a mushroom-shaped cloud
And we know for certain that some lucky day
Someone will set the spark off and we will all be blown away

They're rioting in Africa
There's strife in Iran
What nature doesn't do to us
Will be done by our fellow Man

Where did you pull that out of USU? 1958? Asking who our favorite WAC team, outside of our own, is like picking your favorite second cousin. But, since we're on the subject, Here are my picks:

1) Hawaii - Great place to go and our current coach is their all-time winningest coach
2) Boise - I too am jealous of their success and their fans have, including our mod, has been very hospitable
3) Nevada - They beat the Rebels and have some entertaining posters on this board.
4) Utah State - Closest WAC school to my new home and it's not BYU
5) La Tech - Not a great fit for the conference but I feel for Louisiana right now
6) New Mexico State - Good coach and for their bravery of having the guts to put a typical San Francisco man, chaps and all, on their logo
7) Idaho - I like potato chips
8) Fresno - I can't stand them but they are the last team on the list.

On to WAC play this week. Hope Nevada brings a large contingent to Spartan Stadium. Go Spartans.

Hmmmmm.......it's gotta be,

1. Boise state- I got a lot of respect for the program, they have really knowledgable fans, and a great coach. They have shown equal respect. I truly root for them and look forward to their games. I only wish them disaster on one day of the year. I'm sick of buying Boise fans their t-shirts for the last 3 years(my only bets). I am porud to say I feel this year I may get my Fresno st shirt!!...Unless..... 04-cheers

2. Hawaii- this teams hates us, we hate them!! But most fans wish them well as they have shown they are usually the 3rd of the WAC's power trio. I dont know how long they stick just to the pass. Can June Jones get them over the hump? how many years do you give him? I have watched timmy chang for about 10years now,I feel I should send him a christmas card or something! I wish him well.

3. Nevada- I was born in reno and have lived on and off for several years.Ever want the best job for a 22 yr old(I'm not that young no more) go work in a Nevada casino, easy money good tips, and all the drink tokes you can handle. They have no fan support, but the potential is there, unfortunately they are waiting for the winning to start, then it'll get packed, like their basketball program. name of the game is winning-all else takes care of itself! But they always give us a good game, and win occassionally. they play hard.

4. San Jose- This is supposed to be our main rivalry, and many Fresno fans would say yes it is. I dont. I like them 4th best, because this game is usually the last game of the year, and we find out what bowl we go to after their game.

5.LaTech- they have given some good battles and continue to do so, you can never take them lightly, or what happened last year will come up and bite you in the arse. They play hard and have a lot of pride, always a scary game.

6.Idaho- showing some toughness, will be interesting to see them in a couple of years with improved recruiting. but unfortunately we have to lay down the wood hard on the newbies, sorry! But seriously I hope all of them give us a hell of a game. Thats what we want-no cake walks.

7.Utah state-some good games, seem to play hard. new mexico state, well they have a good basketball program.

ITS GAME DAY AT THE DOGHOUSE!! ROOT THE DOGS ON ESPN2-6PM!!

I'm older than the dustbunnies under Slapdad's 4 poster bedstead with the Hello Kitty mosquito netting.

I'm older than Moose Stubing.

I'm older than the single wing.

I'm older than face masks.

I'm even older than the Great Society.

I am '78, I remember everything, fear me if you dare!

No. '78's when I graduated with my BA.

I know Tony Knap. He was a good friend of my father's when they both coached in the Bay Area in the '50s. Tony and my dad were both supposed to come up as assistants in Logan when a new coach, also a Bay Area HS coach in the '50s, was hired as USU's new HC before the '59 season.

My Dad asked for a release from his contract from his HS principal to take the job. He was not only not given a release, but threatened that he'd never coach HS in CA again if he left early. Somebody else got the gig. My dad ended up coaching HS in Utah.

Tony was a very good coach. The politics surrounding his leaving USU have always left a bad taste in my mouth. Happily, he has remained good friends with USU and many of the people there.

I once had to wear a leatherette helmet sans facemask. Not very dang fun, let me tell you. When I was a 9th grader, about 80 guys tried out for the frosh team at my HS. Not enough of the new helmets for everybody. It only lasted a few days until several guys quit, leaving a 7-1/4 long oval for '78 to wear. Whew! And that explains my pretty smile and straight nose.

1. Fresno St
I have relatives in "Fresneck", because they are litterally Fresneckians in Saratoga, Ca. Can't wait to make a road trip to Fresno and kill two birds with one stone!
2. Boise St
The Aggies and the Broncos are going to have some great tailgates. 04-cheers
3. Nevada
I love to watch a team that has a chance to beat my team in basketball, and the Pack are going to bring it!
4. New Mexico St
We Aggies are bound at the hip with the southern Aggies.
5. Idaho
I'm still kicking myself for not bumming from my wife in Moscow. She turned down a very appealing scholarship offer from there. Maybe we'll still make our way up to Moscow, after I get tired of these idiots here in SLC.
6. Hawai'i
Gotta love the Warrior fans. They are some of the wiser fans in the west.
7. San Jose St
My uncle got his advanced degree from there. My cousin is a student there as we speak. I work with many Spartans.
8. La Tech
I'm looking forward to some southern hospitality in Louisiana in the future. Please don't leave us, Dawgs.

I'm sure this list will eventually change after our first complete year competing in the WAC, but here's how I call it now.

1. BSU - Watched their football program go sailing past us like John Candy in Summer Rental. Like their fans, knowledgeable and down to Earth people. Further impressed by their support of USU at last years NCAA tournament in Boise.

2. NMSU - Have always enjoyed playing them in hoops and fball. Welcomed us heartily when we needed a home in the Skunkbelt, and their fans are always civil. The comment about the "bravery of having the guts to put a typical San Francisco man, chaps and all, on their logo" is incredibly funny. Also their Aggies - what's not to like.

3. Nevada - Strictly for the hoops. This year I hope you do well in regards to basketball and will cheer your team on feverishly (when not playing USU obviously). Have to admit the "Free Slapdad" commentary over the past few months from the UNR fans is well worth my time and has played to your favor. I also believe we will beat you in football this year - I have no justification for that statement.

4. FSU - Still remember the games in Romney long ago. (Aggie fans - remember when they used to sell drinks in those plastic cups that had opposing team logo's on them. I still have about 5 Fresno cups, among others like Pacific and UCSB, at my folks house back in Logan.) Football program, and coach are really something to envy. In addition, I love to hate you.

5. Idaho - Unfortunately in football we have been pretty close in regards to recent success. I always cheer for them to win, but some of their fans are worthless. My older bro went to Washington State, so I'm familiar with their campus - gorgeous! In fact, Idaho has kind of been like a brother to USU over the years, with each team (football) taking turns being the dumb***.

6. Hawaii - Because one day I'll go to a game there and I know from previous trips that I will love it. Hawaii students = lucky bastards...

7. La Tech - I remember the first time they came into Romney for football. I sat behind some of their fans and they were very supportive of their team, respectful of ours, and absolutely loved the view of the mountains while watching the game - real nice folks. Would like to go to an Aggie game down south some day and eat catfish or crawdaddys or what ever the hell you guys eat.

8. SJSU - Call it general malaise on my behalf, but personally, I just don't feel much of a connection between our schools. I hope to change that after this year. IMO, unless things change at USU and SJSU, we might be headed for some epic battles for last place on the gridiron. Like the area and have been to San Jose many times. Would like to attend an Aggie here as well, perhaps some heavy drinking with some SJSU fans will change my outlook.

Dnvr Aggie, Somehow I see the USU/SJSU rivalry growing. The fact that I am recently transplanted in Utah helps. I'd love to grab a brew with you at a game up in Logan but unfortunately, but furtunately, this year's game falls on my 10-year anniverary and my wife isn't having a weekend in Logan. No offense to Logan. Maybe next time.
