Government forced to step in

If the markets don't care about pollution and energy independence, the government has to. This is why there has to be a balance between capitalism and socialism.

If you're talking about issues like the Love Canal, Three-Mile Island, etc., I agree. While the government isn't in the business of protecting us from ourselves, it is charged with ensuring we have a healthy environment in which to live. Gas mileage? I disagree. GM has several cars getting over 25 MPG right now, and, IMO, it was mainly caused by the second Japanese Invasion better known as Rice-Burners. Kinda funny how that worked out. They adopted American standards of SUV's and trucks, while we adopted many of their car standards. Look at the average Japanese truck and compare it to the ones of yesterday. The next truck I get will probably be a Tundra. It's balls to the wall with a V-8. Competition has been the main driving force behind better gas mileage in vehicles. As gas prices increase, people will be a helluva lot more conscience about what they purchase. Try selling a Tahoe Z-71 these days.

Are you really that insecure with your manliness?

Looks like more govt. regulations on the free market to me...Just more hoops for business to jump though...Its likely to cause unintended problems down the road...as most government regulation usually does....Why is this necessary anyway...These things are occuring without the govt. being involved now because consumers are demanding them.

Are you really a feminist? I like power. Has nothing to do with my "manliness". Do you want NIU to be strong year in and year out? If so, why are you insecure in you manliness? Don't buy into that feminist bull**** about a powerful vehicle being some kind of extension of manhood. It's quite idiotic.

I dont see how rooting for a football team has any correlation with grotesquely unnecessary horsepower and size in an automobile, especially considering our current political and environmental climate.
