Artist you are most embarrassed about liking...
At times most of us on this board can be a bit snobby about our music. Time to drop the guard. Which artist or group do you like that you are most embarrassed to admit to?

Well,

I can get into a few Garth Brooks tunes...which says a lot since I mostly despise country music.

While some might look down their noses upon me, I'm not embarrassed by it, I love 70s pop music: "Reunited" by Peaches & Herb, "Black and White" by Three Dog Night, "Superstar," & "Rainy Days and Mondays" by the Carpenters, "Kung Fu Fighting," "The Night the Lights went out in Georgia," "Midnight Train to Georgia" (good decade for Georgia songs), etc, etc, etc. In the mid-90s, we had a station here in Chicago that played all sorts of 70s pop. Unfortunately, my friend and I were just about the only two listening to the station and it went away.

Bonus points for the first person who knows who recorded "The Night the Lights Went out in Georgia."

Some chick. Patsy Cline, Nancy Sinatra?

Anywhoos, it's mostly cheezy 80's rock for me. The Bangals, I could listen to Manic Monday over and over again. And anytime I hear a Journey song, whether I'm drunk or not, I'll sing out loud. I'm also a pretty big fan of early and mid career Madonna. I also love the song, "What it feels like for a girl." Also some early Nelly Frutado, before she went hip hop.

Well I was thinking about a few cds I have the other day...while I'm not really embarassed by them....others might question them being in my collection

Winger: Winger
--yeah yeah....

but 17 and Madelaine were pretty good tunes. Plus I only spent $.25 for the cd!

Twisted Sister: We're Not Gonna take it

-- yeah yeah again...but they had some classic tunes in the early 80's and I got a baragin on this cd too... $ .30

Top Gun Soundtrack:
--LOVE IT!

Well... in the dark days I got that Information Society tape that had their two biggest hits on it.... " I wanna kow what you;re thinking.... " and some other tune....too bad those tunes were the only good ones on the entire cd.

Answer:
Amazon sample: "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" by Vicky Lawrence
Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Night_T...In_Georgia
Quote:"The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" is a Southern Gothic song written by songwriter Bobby Russell and performed in 1972 by his then-wife Vicki Lawrence; Reba McEntire later covered it in 1991.
Quote:The song was a number-one hit for Lawrence (who was then a regular on The Carol Burnett Show) on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, and also reached the top forty of Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart. The song was top for one week, being succeeded by Tony Orlando and Dawn's "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree".

"The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" was first offered to Cher, but her then-husband and manager Sonny Bono reportedly turned it down (he was said to be concerned that the song might offend Cher's southern fans).[2] Note that although the song was #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, it in fact, only reached the top forty of Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, despite having "Georgia" in the song title and despite Vicki Lawrence's country-style presentation, in a checkerboard outfit

Save for Journey (everyone's allowed to drunkenly sing to Journey), that is pretty embarrassing. 03-shhhh

I just have an appreciation for the quality of production that goes into songs from those bands (save Journey).
