I was expecting a Wayne Gretzky thread, but Carlin was pretty good too.

Funny guy, too bad his understanding of Christianity is wildly inaccurate.

You're right. He went far too easy on it.

Care to elaborate or should this conversation just stay at the level of rhetoric and keep away from facts?

RE: In honor of the great one
The level of this discussion just took a dramatic turn for the worse. Anyone who wants to appeal either to Richard Dawkins (who knows nothing about theology or philosophy) or to Liberty "University" students (many of whom know nearly nothing about everything) to support their argument has lost from the get-go.

I really hope you've at least read a few legitimate atheists, who make claims that genuinely challenge Christian theology. If you want suggestions, I'd be glad to oblige.

Go on -- counter any of Dawkin's points. And where he speaks while delivering them is completely irrelevant.

c'mon Nate, you had to know you'd get an argument. Did you really think that comment would go unchallenged?

And GTS, is richard dawkins the nutjob that south park made fun of in the Wii episode?

Swoosh,

I have no problem with someone challenging what I said. It's just disappointing that seemingly intelligent people like GTS fall for his pop-atheism that lacks real substance.

I'll respond in full at some point in the next week but I'm about to be traveling for a few days, so bear with me, GTS.

RE: In honor of the great one
I really wasn't all into Carlin's humor though I did find parts of it funny. I remember watching him on time on Larry King taking calls. I really was tempted to call him up and tell him why he never started to poke fun at a old balding hippies who have ponytails and still have a 60s mindset. I mean, those are some folks that are just screaming to be made fun of. I bet that would have thrown him for a loop. :D Damn, I just hate myself to this day for not taking that opportunity. For all practical purposes, I heard from someone who met Carlin personally that he really was a great guy. May he rest in peace.

He's not a nutjob. He's a professor at Oxford in evolutionary biology, and they chose him because he is one of the pre-eminent atheists, and unfortunately some people turn atheism into it's own sort of bizarre religion (which was what South Park was going on about).

Believing in evolution puts you far ahead of most. At least here in the US and in Turkey.
